Chapter Three Hundred And Twenty-Seven:
Aurora shook her head, then smiled despite herself.

The smile made something warm settle inside Corren’s chest. But he didn’t mention it. Instead he offered her another glass of sparkling water.
Aurora accepted.
Neither realized how naturally they had started moving together like a real couple.
Across the ballroom, Ray Simpson was having the worst evening of his life. Not because of the gala, business, dr because of Tina.
But because now that he knew Kael was Daisy’s brother, a completely different problem had taken his place.
Lucien Virelli.
The man seemed to be everywhere around. Every time Ray looked up, Lucien was somehow near Daisy.
He was either talking to her, making her laugh, or standing beside her.
And every single time, Ray disliked him a little more. And the worst part? He didn’t even know if he had the right to be jealous anymore. That thought irritated him greatly.
Several times he tried to focus on conversations around him, but he failed.
Eventually, after losing track of yet another discussion, he made a decision.
Enough.
He placed his glass on a passing tray, and he began to walk.
Meanwhile, Daisy was standing alone near one of the balcony entrances. And since the time she arrived all evening, she finally had a moment to breathe.
The gala had become overwhelming with too many people, too many emotions, and too many reminders. She stepped toward the quiet area near the balcony and looked out over the city lights.
Southvale looked beautiful tonight. The view almost calmed her.
“Daisy.”
The voice behind her immediately destroyed whatever calm remained. She closed her eyes briefly, then turned.
Ray stood there, looking directly at her. They both didn’t speak for a moment. And that made the silence stretch longer. Even too awkward.
Finally Ray broke it. “Can I ask you something?”
Daisy nodded slowly. “What?”
Ray hesitated. Which was unusual for him.
Then he said, “Kael.”
Daisy blinked. “My brother?”

Ray immediately felt foolish. Unfortunately, there was no way around it now. “Yes.”
A smile slowly appeared on Daisy’s face. Not because she was mocking him.
Because she finally understood. “Oh.”
Ray knew that look. And he hated it.
“You thought Kael was my boyfriend.” It wasn’t a question. Daisy had figured it out immediately.
Ray looked away. That alone confirmed everything. For two full seconds Daisy simply stared at him. Then lau escaped her and she couldn’t stop herself.
Ray looked offended. “You find this funny.”
“A little.”
“Daisy.”
“A lot.”
Ray rubbed his forehead. Somewhere in the distance, Kael would probably never let him forget this.
Eventually Daisy managed to stop laughing. Though barely.
Ray waited. Then finally asked quietly, “So who is Lucien?”
The laughter disappeared immediately.
Daisy looked away.
That silence worried him a lot.
Finally she spoke. “Lucien is complicated.”
Ray’s stomach tightened. That was not the answer he wanted.
Daisy looked back at him. Then something inside her shifted.
Maybe it was exhaustion, or frustration. Or was it because she was tired of pretending?
Whatever the reason, she finally decided to be honest. Completely honest. “I haven’t been with anyone since you, Ray,”
The words did something magical inside him.
Daisy continued before she could lose her courage. “The man you’ve been talking about all evening is my brother.”
