Natalic instinctively dodged the incoming slap. At the same time, her hand closed around the attacker’s phone. The moment the next blow came, she ripped it from his grip and bolted.
Baron caught the movement in his peripheral vision, his gut tightening with alarm.
“Down!” he barked.
Without thinking, Natalic rolled across the ground and dropped flat.
Baron snatched the sole off one thug’s shoe and flung it at the man chasing after her.
It struck with a sharp crack. The man howled, stumbling, his pursuit faltering for a precious second.
Natalie seized the chance. She unlocked the phone and dialed the police, relieved to find there was no password.
But just as the call was about to connect, a small hand clamped down hard on hers, wrenching the phone away.
“Calling the cops now? Don’t you think it’s a little late for that?”
The childish voice floated above her head.
Natalie lifted her eyes and found herself staring into Anna’s delicate little face.
If she hadn’t already suspected it, she never would have believed this girl was the one pulling the strings.
But the cruelty and mockery in Anna’s eyes erased all doubt. Natalie’s pulse steadied, her fear hardening into ice.
“So this kidnapping was your idea?”
Her tone was soft, almost gentle, without the slightest tremor of fear.
Anna blinked, momentarily thrown off, before frowning.
“You sound like you knew all along.”
“Anna, adults are supposed to play by adult rules. Pretending to be a child, using my daughter as a pawn–don’t you think that’s low, even for you?”

Natalie’s gaze sharpened like a blade.
Anna froze again, then smirked.
“So you figured it out. Besides being a dwarf, who do you think I am?”
Her mocking stare dared Natalic to answer.

Natalie’s lips curved into a cold smile. “Do I really need to spell it out? You can’t honestly believe you’ve been hiding that well. Or that your little plan with Rachel went unnoticed.”
The name wiped the smugness off Anna’s face.
She had been certain no one knew about her connection with Rachel. But Natalie’s confidence made her waver.
Could Rachel have slipped?
In truth, Natalie was bluffing.
Chris had once told her Anna bore a striking resemblance to a young Rachel. Natalie had never seen Rachel back then, but Chris wasn’t the type to be wrong.
Chris hadn’t uncovered solid proof linking the two, but this was the chance Natalie had been waiting for. With Anna right here, she pushed–and watched the truth crack through.
It worked.
A glimmer of triumph flashed in her eyes before she quickly buried it.
Anna’s grip tightened on her wrist, her voice ice–cold. “You’re in my territory now. Still so arrogant? Do you really think those two useless men can get you out of here alive?”
Not far away, Jensen had been struggling with his restraints. The chaos spurred him on until he finally worked himself free and ripped the blindfold from his face.
The sight that met him made his brows knit.
Baron–one man–was holding off five attackers.
If he could fight like that, why had he acted so pathetic at the start?
As a seasoned CEO, Jensen’s mind raced ahead.
So that’s it.

He must have already tipped off the Stone family–or the police. That explained his boldness. That explained why Natalie wasn’t panicking.
But as the realization sank in, Jensen noticed Anna seizing Natalie’s wrist. Alarm shot through him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing? A little kid trying to play tough?”
He hadn’t heard a word of the exchange between the two women. To him, Anna looked no older than five or six–a strange sight in a place like this, but still just a child.
Without hesitation, Jensen strode forward, grabbed her by the collar, and hoisted her off the ground.
“You brat, what are you doing here? Do you even know where you are? Running in here to play house?”
His first thought was that she’d wandered in by mistake.
Anna hadn’t expected him to intervene.
She hadn’t expected her men to be this useless either. Hauled into the air like a kitten, she froze.
Natalie blinked at the sight but quickly snapped, “Jensen, don’t let her fool you! She’s not a child–she’s a dwarf! And she’s the one who had us kidnapped!”
