Natalie had barely finished speaking when Anna reacted.

A scalpel slid from her sleeve, its cold blade catching the light as she slashed straight toward Jensen’s wrist.
Jensen was still reeling from Natalie’s warning when he caught the glint of steel coming at him. His expression darkened.
“You know why you’ll never grow up? Because you’re rotten to the core!”
With a sharp backhand, he knocked the scalpel from her grip and followed with a brutal slap across her face.
Now that he knew she wasn’t a child, he didn’t hold back.
This woman–who looked like a little girl–had just tried to slice through his tendons. She was vicious beyond belief.
Anna hadn’t expected him to strike so hard. The blow sent her flying across the room, crashing into furniture before slamming onto the floor with a thud.
Baron glanced over instinctively, catching sight of Jensen pulling Natalie to her feet.
His eyes narrowed.
The way Jensen’s hand lingered on Natalie’s arm made something inside him burn. He wanted to cut that hand off.
But Baron knew this wasn’t the time. If Jensen could shield Natalie, he could swallow his jealousy for now.
“Jensen, get her out of here!” Baron roared.
Even as he shouted, another wave of armed men poured in.
Natalie’s heart sank.
They weren’t getting out. Not today.
Anna had been prepared for everything.
Baron’s face tightened as the odds shifted again.

Jensen had been ready to drag Natalic out, but when he saw the reinforcements flooding in, his expression darkened.
“What the hell do you people want? This is a country of law–do you even understand that?”
Anna staggered to her feet, blood on her lips, fury in her
cycs.
“A country of law? And you think that justifies hitting a child?”
“You call yourself a child? Please. You’re like painting a cucumber green and calling it fresh.”
Jensen didn’t spare her a shred of courtesy.
If humiliating her could win Natalie back, he’d do it without hesitation. But to anyone else, he didn’t bow his head.
Anna’s eyes burned red with rage.
“Jensen, this had nothing to do with you. You really want to stick your nose in?”
“Let me and Natalie walk out of here, and you can do whatever you want with that man. I won’t interfere.” Jensen jerked his chin toward Baron.
Natalie’s stomach twisted with frustration. Even now, Jensen couldn’t stop taking shots at
Baron.
Anna actually laughed, bitter and sharp.
“Let you walk? Fine. But Natalie stays.”
The words made Jensen freeze.
So this whole kidnapping was about Natalie.
“You know her? You’ve got a score to settle with her?” he demanded, glancing back.
Natalie nodded. “Yes. A blood feud.”
This woman had nearly destroyed her daughter’s life. That was a hatred that could never be forgiven.
Jensen was stunned.
He’d never imagined Natalie could make such enemies. In his mind, it had to be Baron’s fault. Natalie’s life with him had been peaceful until Baron showed up.

His jaw tightened as he shot Baron a venomous glare.
Baron tried to reach her but was forced back by the mercenaries hemming him in.
Natalie stood close to Jensen, his arm protectively in front of her.

Anna wiped the blood from her mouth, her voice cutting through the chaos. “Jensen, walk away now and I’ll pretend none of this ever happened. But if you stay–don’t blame me for what happens next. Think carefully. Is she worth your life?”
Jensen had been unsure at first. But now, with this pint–sized woman threatening him again and again, he was done playing nice.
“Are you deaf? I said let me and Natalie leave, and I won’t make trouble for you. Keep running your mouth, and you’ll just earn yourself another beating.”
His words were ice–cold, showing not a shred of restraint.
Anna’s chest heaved, her rage boiling over.
She jabbed a trembling finger at him, laughing bitterly. “You think being president of Luke Corp makes you untouchable? You’re nothing but a fool, strung along by a woman. And you dare act tough with me?”
Her words hit a nerve.
“What the hell are you babbling about? Fooled by a woman? You’ve lost your damn mind.”
Anna’s mocking smile widened.
“Oh, so you really don’t know. No wonder. If you did, you never would have kept Sharon around.”
