Susie pulled up the recent number and, using her hacking skills, began tracing the source. After a few seconds she frowned.

The guy was carefulhe routed through foreign servers. I can’t pinpoint the exact location.

Sean’s brow tightened at that.

Forget it for now. Turn the phone offand better destroy it. We need to get out of here fast. I don’t want anyone finding the driver like this.

He blamed himself for acting too hastily. If he had kept pretending to sleep, they might have been taken to Dock One and learned what that place was for. Then Susie could have hacked a message to Dad and maybe they could have wiped out the bad guys in one strike. Instead, they’d spooked whoever was behind it.

How do we get out of here?Susie asked, glancing at the desolate landscape that made her

uneasy.

Sean reached for his phonebut Susie snatched it, powered it down, and pulled out the SIM.

Susie, what are you doing?he hissed.

I don’t want anyone tracing our signal, she said, and did the same with her own phone. Then she grabbed Sean’s hand and they ran.

Don’t worry where we gojust get beyond this area first.

Sean agreed. Hand in hand, the two children left the car and vanished!

When Rio’s people arrived, they found only the unconscious driver and a car with its door wide open. The children were gone.

Rio had Finn call them, but only heard the disconnected tone. Panic rose in him. He notified Payne immediately.

At the hospital, Jensen slowly came to. He stared at the white ceiling, disoriented, unsure where he was. Turning his head, he saw a nursing aide and Sharon idly scrolling on her phone in a chair nearby.

Memory rushed back into Jensen’s mind. The realization that Sharon had not been his savior but had taken credit for saving Natalie made his eyes narrow.

Sharon suddenly felt a chill. She looked up and met Jensen’s cold, killing stare. She shivered. and rose instinctively.

Jensen, are you all right?she asked. Although she’d had other ideas about him, she needed to steady him before things escalated.

Jensen stood looking at the woman he had once wanted to protect, and a wave of disgust washed over him. How had he never seen through her acting before? After so many years of thinking she had saved his lifeafter even risking his marriage to repay herhe now felt like a fool. His gaze turned frigid.

Sharon didn’t fully grasp his thoughts, but Jensen’s look made her want to flee.

Jensen, you just woke up. I’ll go call the doctor, she said, then left the room.

She pressed against the corridor wall and gasped, discovering her palms were sweating. Jensen had always treated her wellno matter how far she’d pushed things, he’d covered for her. Even when she sabotaged Natalie’s hand and ruined her design career, Jensen hadn’t punished her.

So why had she felt, for a moment, like her throat was being squeezed? Why had she sensed Jensen’s murderous intent? She couldn’t explain it. She took several deep breaths and forced herself to go find the doctor.

By the time the doctor and Sharon returned to the ward, Lucy had already told Loretta that Jensen was awake. Lucy sat behind Jensen, propping him up with a cushion, tears welling in her eyes as she spoke softly, Mr. Jensen, you really scared Madam. When she heard you were hurt, she nearly fainted. If it weren’t for the Witch Doctor operating, she might not have survived. Mr. Jensen, please don’t do such dangerous things again.”

Jensen paused at that.
