**Chapter 538: A Sense of Security**
Baron’s words wrapped around Natalie like a warm blanket, offering her a sense of comfort she desperately needed.
“But if I just leave like this,” she pondered aloud, “won’t people think I’m turning my back on the Stone family’s survival?”
Baron chuckled softly, shaking his head in disbelief. “Why should you let the opinions of others weigh you down? Your life is yours to live, and it should be nothing short of wonderful. Your parents adore you, and their greatest wish is for you to find happiness. Besides, your elder brother is here to hold the fort. The Stone family didn’t crumble in your absence, and it certainly won’t fall apart now that you’re back. Trust me on this.”
As he spoke, Baron pulled Natalie gently into his embrace, his smile radiating warmth. “So, have you thought about where you’d like to travel?”
Natalie hesitated, a frown creasing her forehead. “No, not really. I was just throwing it out there.”
Deep down, the idea of traveling didn’t excite her as much as it should have. In the past, while living with the Summers family, every decision had been made for her; she had merely followed along, a passive participant in her own life. Later, in her relationship with Jensen, she had molded herself to fit his needs, adapting to his pace and desires, always striving to support him.
Now, back with the Stone family, a sense of obligation washed over her. As a daughter of the family, she felt an innate duty to contribute in some way.
But how could she articulate that feeling?
For over twenty years, her life had felt like a continuous cycle of living for others, and the thought of breaking free, even for a moment, was exhilarating yet terrifying.
She longed to be a little reckless, to make a choice solely for herself, even if it was as simple as a spontaneous trip. Yet, a nagging voice in her mind reminded her of the precarious state of the Stone family. Could her desire for freedom come at too great a cost? The fleeting thought of being kidnapped again to manipulate her parents sent a shiver down her spine, and she quickly pushed it aside.
“Alright, I’m fine. Let’s wait until things settle down at home, and then we can plan a trip together as a family of four,” she suggested, trying to sound optimistic.
Baron nodded, pleased with her response. “Good.”
However, he noticed the flicker of disappointment in her eyes, and it tugged at his heartstrings. He made a mental note to find a way to lift her spirits.
After picking up some additional groceries, Baron took hold of Natalie’s hand and led her toward the car.
As they loaded the bags into the trunk, Natalie couldn’t help but notice the assortment of fruits and snacks designed for children. A puzzled expression crossed her face.
“Does our old friend have kids?” she inquired, her curiosity piqued.
“Yes,” Baron replied, a soft smile playing on his lips as he slid into the driver’s seat.
Natalie felt an unexpected jolt in her heart at the sight of his smile, a rush of warmth flooding through her.
Mama Mia. Why does Baron look so incredibly handsome when he smiles?
