When the GF9 Test Subject Became His Obsession novel Chapter 141

No matter how things had gone ten years ago, this time around, Celeste couldn’t be sure Serena wouldn’t expose them.

Zachary couldn’t stand it anymore. “Mom, Dad, don’t you think this is shameless?”

Using someone’s life-saving act to force them to hand over a patent? That was blackmail, plain and simple.

Would the Almara family really let themselves be bullied by the Reed family?

“What do you know? You’re just a kid.” Richard snapped irritably. Ever since the Wading Waters Bay project collapsed, his business had been circling the drain. Former partners cut ties out of nowhere, and even Hugo—who had long supported them—had done a complete 180. The Simpson family had only agreed to collaborate after securing that project, and now the Reed family was little more than an empty shell. Without a solid new venture, they were finished.

Taylor’s sudden death had come at the perfect time. It gave them a way back in.

“Celeste, talk to Taylor. If you ask him directly, he probably won’t refuse you.”

Zachary scoffed. The very air around the Reed family was starting to feel toxic.

Meanwhile, Serena took a cab to Hayes Villa.

Security was tight in that area. Taxis were only allowed up to the lakeside road. Sebastian’s villa sat on an island in the middle of the lake, and access required crossing a private bridge. The cab was stopped at the entrance.

Serena got out and started walking. As she passed a nearby villa, a maid was unlocking the garden gate to welcome some guests.

The window of a parked car suddenly rolled down to reveal Angela’s heavily made-up face.

“Serena, you’ve got some nerve showing up here!”

She still hadn’t settled the score over that disaster of a dinner party.

Serena caught sight of Richard in the driver’s seat. “Driving with a broken arm? Careful, or you’ll crash.”

She didn’t stop walking, breezing right past them without a glance back.

Angela and Richard were left fuming in silence.

Zachary had perfected his haughty little scowl, but Serena didn’t even look his way. That annoyed him too.

“What’s she doing? That road only leads to one house.” Celeste’s tone was dripping with fake concern. “Charging in like that, she’s bound to get kicked out.”

Zachary found himself growing worried despite himself. He vaguely remembered the owners of that villa being a big deal. The staff were intimidating—black trench coats, black dogs. He’d been scared away from there as a kid and never dared go near it again.

He pressed his lips together, almost calling out to her. But in the end, he stayed quiet, stewing in frustration.

Taylor came out to greet the guests and immediately spotted Serena walking deeper into the community. The weather was cooling down, and she wore long sleeves today. From her cuff peeked an emerald bracelet—the texture and design looked oddly familiar.

Taylor’s heart skipped a beat.

“Taylor!” Celeste got out of the car and latched onto his arm, yanking his attention back.
