Chapter 17 The Notorious Devil
By the afternoon, word had spread that Celeste had broken her hand.
“She was looking for Serena earlier today!”
“I saw that too. Could it be that Celeste tried to break Serena’s hand but ended up suffering the consequences herself?”
Teenagers were smart. Looking at the patterns of past incidents and piecing things together, it was easy to form the theory–especially for the students from Class Three who had attended Serena’s birthday banquet and witnessed even more examples firsthand.
Zachary tried to throw paint on Serena and ended up covered in it himself.
Celeste added super glue to the paint and ended up disfiguring herself.
Two other girls who helped Celeste that day still had lingering rashes on their hands that wouldn’t wash off.
And then there was Kennedy, who had suffered not once, but twice.
The common denominator? Every single person who tried to harm Serena ended up being harmed in the exact same way.
So naturally, the conclusion was clear, Celeste must have wanted to break Serena’s hand.
Otherwise, how else could it be explained? If Serena had done it, would Celeste have stayed quiet? She would’ve gone straight to Baldy Pan to report her, probably even tried to force the Morrow family to cough up a few more million.
In Class 19, nearly everyone had reached the same conclusion.Their deduction skills were practically razor–sharp.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Celeste was crying out in pain as her bones were set.
The doctors gave her two options.
The first was surgery, which would align her bones perfectly but required metal screws and two operations, leaving a scar on her wrist.
The second was a more conservative approach, where a cast or splint, her arm in a sling for two months, and another year or so of recovery. However, with this method, there was a risk of misalignment, which could permanently affect the shape of her wrist.
Celeste refused to have surgery or bear a scar. In the end, she finally got what she wanted–a

As she left the hospital, she scrolled through the school forum. Since she had broken her hand in the experimental building with Serena, anyone with a brain should have realized it was Serena’s doing.
At first, the discussion seemed to confirm her suspicions. But after reading a few more posts, the narrative suddenly shifted.
“What kind of demonic backlash is this? Karma reversal? What goes around comes around? Are these people insane? When did I ever try to break Serena’s hand?”
Celeste hadn’t cried when she broke her hand. But now, she did.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
“Celeste, don’t cry!”
Lilian stood awkwardly beside her, trying to console her. She had said it before–Serena was too eerie to mess with.
They hadn’t even done anything yet, and they were already being slandered.
“What kind of people are these?”
The more Celeste cried, the worse her hand hurt.
Back in Class 19, the students were still discussing the incident when Kelly suddenly walked in.
The room instantly fell silent.
“Kelly, are you here for Mr. Indigo?”
Kelly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her gaze sweeping over Serena before turning away as if she didn’t exist. “Yeah.”
Her attitude was obvious to everyone.
Who would want to acknowledge a little devil like Serena as family? No one had a death wish.
Besides, as soon as Serena entered the Morrow family, she took away 400,000 dollars from them. That wouldn’t sit right with anyone.
“Where’s Indigo?”
A boy quickly answered, “Smoking in the bathroom. He’ll be back soon!”

Smoking was banned in school, but there were always a few rebels.

In Building A, there was still some control. But in Building B, where rich kids and special admissions students ran wild, no one bothered enforcing the rules.
Not even two minutes later, Indigo and Solstice walked in through the back door.
Seeing Kelly, Indigo immediately turned and walked right back out.
Finisher
Kelly smiled as she followed him. The moment they stood side by side outside the door, the classroom erupted with whistles.
Dating was prohibited in school, but that only made it feel more special.
Among the student council, there were two pairs widely recognized as being more than friends but not quite lovers–Kelly and Indigo were one, while Celeste and Taylor were the other.
Indigo, never one to handle teasing well, frowned and walked away from the crowd before asking, “What’s up?”
Kelly pulled out a completely shattered SIM card. “It’s broken. Can you fix it?”
Indigo examined it and chuckled. “You sure know how to break things properly.”
“Can you fix it?”
“I’ll give it a shot.”
Kelly smiled. She knew others might fail, but Indigo was different.
After school, Thanos and Serena walked out together.
Well, not together exactly–he was carrying both of their backpacks but keeping a solid 9 feet distance from her.
Rowan, clinging to Serena’s arm, glanced back. “What’s Thanos doing?”
Serena surveyed the area. Everywhere she passed, people instinctively maintained a 9 feet radius. The only “living” being beside her was Rowan.
“Does Rowan’s face ward off evil? So jealous of ugly people!”
Though spoken softly in the crowded hallway, Serena’s gaze immediately locked onto the girl who said it.
That girl turned pale and froze in place.

“What’s wrong?”
“My legs feel weak!”

Not just weak–after making eye contact with Serena, she felt like she might faint on the spot.
Serena looked away and handed a lollipop to Rowan. “Eat.”
Rowan took it and suddenly felt shy. “Serena, how should I thank you? You give me candy every day.”
Serena thought for a moment. “Buy me grilled skewers.”
Rowan nodded enthusiastically. “Okay, okay!”
That evening, Olivia personally came to pick them up.
Thanos, who had been dawdling in the back, finally approached–but still kept three feet away from Serena.
Serena looked at him, and he flinched. “I didn’t do anything to you!”
He had only just learned about Kennedy’s bubble tea fiasco that afternoon. First, Zachary got pushed down the stairs, then Celeste broke her hand.
It was becoming clear to him–their family had adopted something not normal.
The whole Serena’s backlash curse theory was suddenly making a lot of sense.
“Serena, you’re going shopping with me. Thanos, take a cab home yourself!”
Olivia opened the car door and gently guided Serena in.
However, Thanos–along with the entirety of the senior class–knew that Serena was not a delicate person.
She is a devil who could shatter other people’s bones.
Thanos instinctively reached for Olivia’s arm, but when Serena’s gaze lazily flicked over to him, he let go immediately.
“Mom, please take care of yourself!”
Olivia shot him a glance. “What’s with you? There’s food in the fridge. Heat it up before eating -don’t just take it out and start eating cold.”
Thanos nodded obediently.

As the cat merged into traffic, Serena glanced at the rearview mirror. Thanos still stood at the curb, watching them with a mix of fear and concern.
A weight settled in her chest, making her breath a little heavier.
Olivia noticed. “Serena, what’s wrong?”
Serena hesitated before asking, “Mom, have you seen the school forum?”
At this point, the forum had turned her into a full–fledged monster, with rumors running wild.
Olivia smiled and gently stroked her hair. “Serena, you only need to be yourself. I will always be by your side.”
Since the day Serena entered school, Olivia had paid attention to everything.
Rumors spread like wildfire, but she only believed in the angel she saw with her own eyes.
Olivia’s hands were soft and warm, melting into Serena’s heart.
“Mm.”
A soft hum, and a faint dimple appeared.
Olivia felt utterly content.
