Chapter 18 Fear Is Just Right

Kinton Shopping Mall is the largest mall in Evervale City, hosting brands from both domestic and international markets.

Olivia had brought Serena to buy lingerie and shoes.

While coats were easy to make and purchase, items like lingerie and shoes were best tried on. especially for a young girl still in her developmental stage.

First, Olivia took her out for a meal, browsed through several stores, and even booked tickets for a newly released domestic animated blockbuster, thinking it would appeal to children.

Serena realized that her new mother was probably worried about her being under too much pressure at school and had deliberately taken her out to unwind.

Clearly, high–tech 3D animated movies were not Olivia’s cup of tea, and she soon fell asleep.

Serena wasn’t particularly interested either; she sat obediently next to Olivia, occasionally glancing toward the right corner of the room.

There, a man sat alone, motionless, with an empty seat on either side of him, immediately surrounded by female viewers.

The man had miscalculated; perhaps he thought an animated film would mostly attract little girls and, at most, a few passion–drained middle–aged women, but he was wrong.

This was an adult cinema, and two–thirds of the audience were lively, hormone–raging young

women.

His solitary seating made his male presence more pronounced, drawing flirtatious glances from female viewers now and then. No matter how low his cap was pulled, his robust physique couldn’t be concealed.

Serena’s nose was more sensitive than average, but she couldn’t smell the hormones. However, she had read about people who could detect pheromones like animals or insects.

Being able to smell meant being affected, just like she couldn’t stand the smell of meat on people.

For some, the effect might be a heightened libido or a diminished one, but for a man allergic to the opposite sex like this one, these hormonal scents were lethal!

Midway through the movie, a love–struck girl couldn’t resist the man’s allure and approached him with a gentle, tender smile, “Sir, may I sit here?”

The man didn’t respond; he just looked up at her, then stood up and left.

The girl froze, her beautiful makeup nearly ruined by frustration. The man’s departure was unsteady.

Serena turned back to the movie.

After drinking lots of beverages, she headed to the restroom mid–way through the second half, only to find several staff members surrounding a man.

Some were performing CPR, others were preparing to call an ambulance, and some were trying to force water down his throat.

Outside, six people, including three female staff members, crowded around the man, while the three male staff members couldn’t even squeeze in.

“See? That’s the allure of wearing a thousand hundred dollar watch,” two male staff members commented idly by the side.

Returning from the restroom, Serena saw no progress in the emergency efforts; the women were just floundering.

“If you don’t want him to die, you’d better stay away from him!” she said.

“Oh, here comes another one eyeing the 140,000–dollar watch!” a male staff member mocked.

“We’re trained in first aid!” a female staff member retorted, her eyebrows furrowed.

“He’s not having a heart attack, so why are you pressing on his chest?” Serena argued. “You’re just making it worse!”

The CPR–performing staff member blushed with embarrassment and reluctantly stood up, “If you’re so smart, you do something!”

To be accurate, Serena wasn’t one to help the wounded, but given the watch’s value, she felt compelled to assist, especially since her assets had been frozen by those scoundrels above.

It was tricky for body massages in such a setting, but a few meridian massages later, the man woke up.

Sebastian smelled the fresh, clean scent of his daughter, which slowly purged the impurities and restarted his shut–down body under the stimulation of a few meridians.

Opening his eyes, he saw clearly the people around him.

The girl’s dark eyes sparkled like stars in the polar night, and her pale face resembled a moonlit jade disk.

“This training method is useless. While it might increase endurance a bit, it also accumulates toxins, eventually causing the immune system to collapse,” he said, pointing out a genetic flaw rather than a remedy by countering poison with poison.

Sebastian frowned slightly and after a moment, said, “Thank you.”

Serena, too indifferent to even bother with pleasantries, simply handed him an address, “Remember to pay in cash.”

She had given the last payment to Nathan, but this time, she intended to keep it for herself.

She feared another heartless freeze of her account and the transfer of her assets, leaving her penniless.

Sebastian stood up and left cleanly.

The staff members were baffled.

People were just that open and straightforward about their intentions; she was there for the money, unlike the others who were still caught up in their display of genuine emotions.

During the climax of the movie, Olivia was finally awakened by the special effects and sound.

She quickly checked on her beloved daughter, who was still there, and sighed in relief. As the movie ended and the credits rolled, the audience began to leave.

“Did you enjoy the movie?” Olivia asked.

“It was good,” Serena replied.

“Then next time there’s a good movie, I will bring you again,” Olivia smiled.

“Okay!” Serena agreed.

Sebastian watched Serena follow Olivia out of the mall, his complexion significantly better.

Noah, still shaken, said, “Mr. Sebastian, next time you undergo this kind of counter–training, be sure to include me!”

“He touched me.”

Noah spun around, “What?”

“No allergic reaction,” Sebastian clarified.

“Ah!”

Noah was overjoyed, perhaps they had found the “antidote” they were looking for. They couldn’t get the ghost doctor, but they had found the woman Sebastian wasn’t allergic to.

Finally a miracle!

Noah almost ran out into the street to beg for mercy.

“Remember to send her 140,000 dollars in cash.”

“Cash?”

Who still uses cash these days?

But Noah soon understood. The young girl, coming from an orphanage and having experienced bizarre families, might not have a bank account or a sense of mobile payment, perhaps cash would give her more of a sense of security.

“Okay!”

Back home, Olivia seriously lectured Thanos.

“A good man spoils the women around him into being princesses forever!”

Thanos went quiet.

Olivia continued, “If one day you find the women around you are as tough as steel, it means you have failed miserably!”

Thanos’s heart trembled, “Mom, what’s wrong? Ever since you beat me up last time, I’ve dared not date early anymore! Where are the women around me?”

Olivia went quiet. Did I say anything about early dating?

“Aren’t I and Serena the women around you?”

Thanos‘ eyes complex, he glanced at Serena gnawing on a pencil, “I, I understand.”

Although the internet made it sound scary, as long as he harbored no ill intentions towards Serena, the demonic constitution shouldn’t backfire on him.

Thanos clenched his fists, psyching himself up, and finally approached Serena, “Serena, if you have any trouble in the future, you can count on me to stand up for you!”

All this stemmed from others wanting to bully Serena, and wasn’t it enough that I didn’t let others bully

her?

Thanos patted his chest, “Say it, it’s on me!”

So Serena handed him her homework.

Thanos fell silent. I still haven’t done my own set of problems!

Seeing her opportunistic brother about to break his promise again, Serena said, “Mom says a good man treats his women like a princess, and me, the princess doesn’t want to do homework today.”

Thanos was left speechless.
