His Dangerous Angel

Chapter 32 Welcome Party Fallout

As soon as the final note ended, everyone stood to their feet to honor and say goodbye to the violin prodigy.

To keep things fair, Sidneybeing a worldclass performerwas excluded from the competition.

By nine p.m., all performances concluded and voting officially closed. Serena’s rendition of The Lightdominated the rankings, taking first place by a landslide. Morgan, who came in second, didn’t even earn half the number of votes.

Morgan couldn’t believe her eyes.

The welcome party wasn’t a prestigious event. First prize was only five hundred dollarsbarely the cost of a pair of her shoes. But it was still a public contest. Winning might not bring much glory, but losing? That was pure humiliation.

And that humiliation now had her name on it.

She had planned to win first and use it to legitimize her position as Arts Department president. But now, Serenasome backwoods bumpkinhad stolen the spotlight right out from under her.

And yet, someone else felt even worse.

In the Class 10 corner, Zachary had come to the welcome party just to watch Serena crash and burn. But instead, all his classmates and friends had become fans.

Zachary, Serena’s trumpet solo was amazing! She’s so pretty! I love her! She’s your real sister, right? Can you get her autograph for me?

He snapped. My only sister is Celeste! Stop buzzing in my damn ear!

His classmates immediately gave up on him.

three performers were called on stage to receive their trophies, certificates, and prize money. Sidney herself did the honors.

When she handed Serena her award, she looked a little constipated but still managed to say, Your performance of The Lightwaswell done.

The music was good. The person? No comment.

Serena replied evenly, Your The Shadowwas good too. But in the thirdtolast section, if you had extended one note by about a fifth of a beat, it would’ve been perfect.”

Sidney blinked. Thinking back, she realized the girl was right.

Her expression twisted. You know music?

Sometimes,Serena replied.

What the hell did that meanmusic knowledge based on chance? That only made it worse.

After the awards came the winner speeches.

Serena paused for a beat and said, It was fine, I guess.

The host blinked. What kind of bumpkin answer was that?

Serena continued, I didn’t register myself, and I didn’t pick the piece. But I still wonso that’s fine.

The auditorium fell silent. For a moment, it felt like the Devil had returned.

To some of them, it was like she’d just said, Let’s be realyou’re all trash.”

Quartz’s expression darkened. What the hell kind of speech was that? Could she not just talk like a normal human being?

He jumped in to save the moment. Serena, what are you planning to do with your five hundred dollars?

This time, she didn’t hesitate. I want to buy my little brother a console.

Thanos had mentioned that Lebron had trouble walking and spent most of his time playing video games.

Even if it seemed like Lebron didn’t like her, Serena liked this family. She wanted to give it a real try.

Quartz was speechless.

Seriously? Kaplan’s SAT Prep Plus didn’t sound more useful? Why a console?

Zachary froze.

His heart started racing, and his eyes were fixed on her as if they couldn’t look away. And for some reason, he didn’t want to.

Wow, Zachary! Serena’s so nice! You kicked her out of the Reed family and she still wants to buy you a console!

His ears turned red, but his expression was dismissive. Five hundred dollars? What kind of garbage console can that buy?

Like he needed something that cheap.

His classmates once again dropped him from their friend list.

Olivia hadn’t actually left. She had stayed hidden near the stage and recorded the whole thing. She sent the video to Lebron with one line: Look how nice Serena is to you.

Lebron stared at the pretty girl on stage, eyes glowing, but his lips remained tightly shut.

After the individual awards came the group prizes. Each class had three performances, and the total vote count determined the class ranking.

With Serena dominating first place, Class 19 easily took the top spot.

For a class known as the bottom rung of Building Bfull of special admits and kids with connectionsthis was unprecedented. Their best result before this had been Kennedy’s personal third and the class taking sixth place overall.

This was the first time they’d ever come out on top.

Solstice accepted the award stiffly.

But as class president, she still knew how to say a few words. First, I want to thank Serena. You’ve proven your value to Class 19. From this moment on, you’re officially one of us.

The way she said it, you’d think Serena had been dying to join.
