Because of his condition, Lebron had been isolated since he was a child. Even Thanos had been afraid of him at first. It had made the boy withdrawn and reserved–Arbor couldn’t remember the last time he’d seen Lebron look so calm.

What reassured him most was that, even though Lebron was not good at expressing himself, he was awkwardly and earnestly trying to show kindness.

This daughter had been the right choice.

His hand was on the doorknob, but he didn’t go in—at least not until a nurse arrived to check Lebron’s temperature and blood pressure.

When the nurse saw Serena feeding Lebron candy, she panicked.

“The patient just got out of the ICU–he can’t eat anything yet!” She turned her head. “Call the doctor!”

The room erupted in chaos.

Olivia and Thanos woke with a start.

“Serena, are you trying to murder my brother?” Thanos’s temper flared. He smacked the bottle out of her hand and blocked her from getting close.

“Thanos!” Olivia was startled and quickly pulled Serena into her arms. “Apologize!”

The boy stood stubbornly in place, unmoved.

“I wanted to eat it,” Lebron said, frowning slightly in displeasure.

Thanos didn’t care. “None of you are going to cover for her. I can back down on anything else –but not this.”

Arbor rubbed his forehead and looked at his daughter, who seemed wronged. “Serena…”

She shook her head. “This candy is good for Lebron. I wouldn’t hurt him.”

She rarely explained herself, but maybe these people were willing to believe her.

“I believe you,” Olivia said first.

“I believe you too,” Arbor added.

And just like that, warmth seeped into the cold corners of Serena’s heart. She could see the light.

Thanos felt a little guilty–like he was the one being isolated now.

He glanced at the candy scattered across the floor, his cars burning red.

“No. Not unless the doctor approves. You can’t just give him random things to eat.” His voice was still firm, but softer now.

The doctor arrived quickly. After a thorough check, he found that Lebron’s previously low blood pressure had actually risen slightly, his heartbeat and temperature were back to normal -nothing like a patient just out of the ICU. “He’s fine. No need to panic.”

Then he noticed the bottle on the floor and the spilled candy. His expression shifted.

He hurried to pick them up, examining them closely. They looked almost exactly like the miracle drug recently announced by Horizon Research Institute.

But a moment later, he dismissed the thought–there was no Horizon logo on the bottle. He pinched one candy open and smelled a faint hint of mint. Refreshing and calming. Perfect for easing irritability in hot weather.

The doctor relaxed and straightened his tone. “Even if nothing happened this time, don’t give patients things to eat without approval–whether it’s medicine or candy.”

Once outside, Arbor followed him. “If his illness can’t be cured, why not let my child eat what he wants?”

He was angry now–so angry that, for the first time, his eyes reddened in front of an outsider.

The doctor was taken aback and tried to explain patiently. “Mr. Morrow, I’m sorry. It’s true our current abilities are limited. But your son’s illness… isn’t completely untreatable.”

Arbor’s heart skipped. “What do you mean?”

“There are two options. First, try to place an order with the Ghost Doctor. He’s said to be from Clovencia–maybe he’d give us priority?”

Arbor stared. Was there any real difference between that and having no solution? Did this man have any idea how many royals, politicians, and billionaires had begged the Ghost Doctor for help, only to be ignored? Even when he did take a case, there was no pattern–no way to appeal

to him.

The doctor thought there was a difference–at least it meant there was a potential cure.

“The second option is to bid for GoldCure on the national auction site. Horizon Research Institute just released it. It contains Netherbloom, which can clear blocked vessels, repair meridians, and help damaged tissue regenerate. It’s effective for hypertension, blood disorders, degenerative diseases, and neurological conditions. I consulted my teacher, and he said GoldCure would help your son too.”

The price, however… when the first batch of GoldCure was released, its starting price was one million dollars. Bidding had driven it up to nine million.

No one knew how high the second batch would go.

Even if the Morrow family patriarch treated Arbor’s branch with generosity, no one would casually hand over that much money. Even Nathan, who valued family above all, would bankrupt the entire Morrow estate at that price.

Yes–you read that right. Even one of the wealthiest families in Evervale City couldn’t afford GoldCure without ruin. Ordinary people didn’t even dare to dream of it.

And worse–money wasn’t the only hurdle. Even with the funds, you’d have to outbid the world’s most powerful elite, with winning odds close to zero.
