The doctor was already regretting saying so much. He patted Arbor’s shoulder with an expression that said he had done all he could.

Arbor didn’t respond. He walked to the corner of the hallway and lit a cigarette, drawing hard on it in frustration.
“Dad…” Serena’s voice came suddenly. Arbor quickly stubbed out the cigarette and opened the window to air the place out.
“Don’t tell your mom…” He paused. “About me smoking.”
“Okay.”
Richard smoked too, but he had never held back just because she was there.
Arbor forced a smile, but it looked more painful than crying.
Serena studied him. “What can I do?”
Some of the tension and fatigue left his face. He reached out to ruffle her hair. “Serena, having you as a daughter is a blessing.”
She froze.
“Your mom and brother both like you a lot. With you there to keep them company, I can feel at
case.”
Then he added, “I have to go now. Will you take care of them for me?” He certainly couldn’t rely on that foolish Thanos.
Serena nodded. “Alright.”
Arbor patted her head again, guilt and helplessness in his eyes. His smile faltered completely, and he left in a hurry.
She had heard everything the doctor told Arbor earlier.
Lebron’s illness couldn’t be cured just by getting GoldCure.
GoldCure was, at its core, a restorative–a base treatment best for stabilizing the body. To truly cure him, it would have to be combined with other targeted methods. That was the only way to get results.
While Lebron was asleep, letting the candy and medicine work through rest, Serena slipped out

Chapter 37 A Gift for Lebron
to GameHub.

She didn’t really know what boys liked to play these days, but a quick walk around showed most of the popular games were intense action titles.
Arbor had been clear–Lebron couldn’t experience extreme joy or sorrow. Games that were too exciting were out of the question.
After another lap around the store, she settled on a copy of Princess Life Sim.
Zachary had been following her from a distance. When she’d browsed the fighting games, he’d snorted quietly in arrogant disdain–he could at least tolerate those.
But when he saw her pick Princess Life Sim, his hair practically stood on end.
He almost rushed in to choose something himself—until he saw the price tag. One, two, three, four zeros.
Ten thousand dollars? No way she could afford it. He waited, smug, for her to give up.
Instead-
“I’ll take this one.”
Zachary was stunned. His emotions twisted strangely.
The game might be meant for kids under six, but if she was trying to please him, he supposed he could lower himself to play it.
Serena unzipped her backpack and pulled out a stack of bills.
The store clerk stared in shock. Who carried that much cash around these days–especially a girl?
Handing over the game, the clerk gave her a serious warning. “Miss, be careful out there.”
Serena nodded. “No one would dare rob me,”
The clerk had no words.
Zachary watched her request a gift box, carefully wrapping the game in pink paper and tying it with a bow herself.
He gave a short, derisive snort–but his cars were a little red, and his heartbeat was strangely
uneven.
As Serena left the store, Zachary hurried outside too, timing it so they’d pass each other.

And they did. From start to finish, Serena acted as though she hadn’t seen him.
Damn it.
Still, there was no rush. The console was his, after all–it wasn’t going anywhere. On Monday, when she presented it in front of everyone, he could make her wait, keep his pride intact, and then reluctantly accept it.
By the time Serena returned to the hospital, it was already noon.
Lebron was awake.
He was in a foul mood, refusing to eat or take his medicine, sulking against the headboard.
The nurse who was supposed to change his IV saw the scene and didn’t dare go in.
Thanos, holding a lunch box, retreated to the hallway in fear. Spotting Serena, he quickly grabbed her.
“He’s throwing a fit–don’t go in. You’ll just get dragged into it.”
Serena frowned and peered through the glass in the door. Inside, flowers and fruit lay scattered across the floor. Olivia sat at the bedside, trying to coax him. “Lebron, are you feeling unwell? Tell me, and I’ll help you…”
Lebron’s eyes flicked to the empty sofa, the missing backpack. Then he looked down at his greenish skin, his face darkening as he stayed silent.
He knew better than to expect anyone to like him. His personality wasn’t appealing, and his appearance repelled people. Serena slipping away while he slept was only natural.
