In fact, when Lebron had been in the hospital for an entire week, not one person from Morrow Manor had come to visit. Serena had already guessed what that meant.
From the information Walter had given her, Arbor was not Madam Dorothy’s biological son. To be precise, they were stepmother and stepson. So it was only natural that the Morrow Manor branch kept their distance from the main branch. What had been strange was someone like Nathan acting so attentive before.
Kelly was the first to come out.
“Kelly.” Lebron had very few people he felt close to, and Kelly was one of them. She was the only girl in over ten years who had never looked down on him.
He handed her a gift he had prepared himself. Kelly’s smile was gentle, though her gaze flicked to Serena beside him.
Olivia had dressed her adoptive daughter to perfection, enough to take even Kelly by surprise for a moment.
But when Kelly remembered the welcome party, resentment rose in her heart. Her expression cooled, her tone aloof. “Grandma is old and can’t handle much commotion. When you see her later, you’d better rein in that wild temper of yours.”
Coldness, arrogance, disdain–this was the attitude she showed Serena.
Lebron instantly picked up on Kelly’s hostility toward Serena. His mood darkened, and he suddenly regretted giving her the gift.
Thanos raised an eyebrow. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Since when was it Kelly’s place to lecture Serena?
Kelly knew Thanos was a fool and couldn’t be bothered to argue with him. “I’m doing this for her own good. You came here today to have Grandma accept this granddaughter, didn’t you?”
Serena gave her a cool glance. “Should I be thanking you, then?”
“No need.” Kelly gave a dismissive hum and walked straight past them to Olivia.
“Aunt Olivia.”
At the welcome party, Olivia had scolded her, which Kelly still held against her. But now, seeing

Kelly’s innocent smile, Olivia felt she’d been petty to hold a grudge against a younger girl.
“This is the Serenity Blend you asked for.”
Kelly’s expression softened a little. “I’ve always wanted to learn how to make Serenity Blend. Could you teach me, Aunt Olivia?”
“Oh, it’s too complicated for you to learn.”
Kelly pressed her lips together and said nothing more, heading inside to inform the others.
Serena eyed the box–at least ten bottles. Why did Kelly need so many? And this clearly wasn’t the first time she’d asked for them.
Ever since their brief encounter, Lebron had been wearing a sullen expression. He looked ready to explode at any moment.
Thanos, uneasy around this version of Lebron, whispered to Serena, “Just ignore him. His moods change fast–he’ll be fine soon.”
Lebron said nothing, but he felt even more irritable after hearing that.
He started to wheel himself away, but Serena caught him. “No. We agreed on the way here that a family stays together.”
The storm in his expression died instantly. He obediently backed up, silent but much calmer.
Thanos’s eyes widened. “He actually listens to you?”
Even their parents couldn’t calm Lebron when he was in a mood.
Kelly overheard and came over. She naturally placed her hand on Lebron’s shoulder, smiling warmly. “Lebron’s always well–behaved. Saying that will only hurt his feelings, Thanos.”
Thanos rolled his eyes.
Kelly ignored him–he was a simple–minded fool, and no one cared what he thought. Lebron, on the other hand, was worth the effort. With his strange illness, sullen personality, and volatile temper, winning his favor meant something.
And Kelly happened to be someone Lebron liked. That alone made others see her in a better light.
But Lebron felt the hand on his shoulder was prickling like thorns. His shoulders twitched, and he turned his wheelchair just enough to slip out of her grasp.
Kelly was startled. Surely that was just a coincidence?

Madam Dorothy took her time coming downstairs, flanked by Mica and Wendy Morrow.
Dorothy was impeccably groomed and plump with wealth, but her features had a sharp, unkind cast. Seeing the adopted wild child and the sickly Lebron, her expression soured instantly.
“Lebron, you’re ill–why aren’t you at home resting? What are you running around for?” The green tint in his skin made her wary, as if afraid his sickness might spread to her.
Everyone stepped forward to greet her, except Lebron, who hung back. Serena noticed, stepped aside, and gripped the back of his wheelchair to push him forward. The boy looked startled and a little lost.
Only then did Arbor and Olivia notice as well. They didn’t immediately present their gifts, instead waiting until he was beside them.
Once the family was together, Arbor finally spoke.
