Chapter 44 Family Introductions.
“Today’s just to bring Serena over so everyone can meet her,” Arbor said.

The gifts they had prepared for the Morrow Manor side were far from shabby- – a crystal necklace worth tens of thousands of dollars, several Juniper Shirt haute couture pieces, watches, and other accessories. Altogether, the gifts Arbor presented on Serena’s behalf easily topped a hundred thousand dollars.
Mica mentally tallied it up — more than a hundred thousand, just for a wild child. They were certainly generous.
“And this,” Arbor added, pointing to a paper bag at his feet, “is the three hundred thousand Nathan donated on Serena’s behalf, plus another hundred thousand to make up the difference.”
Only then did Mica’s expression soften. “We’re all family. Why be so polite?”
She picked up the bag and counted the money in front of everyone.
Wendy looked away, unimpressed.
It was exactly four hundred thousand. Mica immediately carried it back to her room, and when she returned, she was noticeably warmer, holding several shopping bags.
“These are all clothes Kelly didn’t want anymore. She’s only worn each piece once or twice. Each one cost over ten thousand dollars – Serena can have them.”
Arbor’s entire family was speechless.
Wendy glanced at the haute couture Arbor’s family had brought, then gave a discreet cough.
Mica looked at her, not quite catching her meaning.
Olivia said tactfully, “Serena doesn’t need clothes.”
Mica eyed Serena’s outfit. Even without a logo, it was clearly high–end. And Serena, without trying, still managed to outshine her precious daughter Kelly – which Mica found intolerable.
“She’s just an adopted daughter. Instead of buying her such expensive clothes, you should spend that money on our mother.”
Madam Dorothy clearly enjoyed hearing that, but the main branch’s expressions instantly
soured.
Arbor said flatly, “Have I not bought Mom enough clothes? Enough jewelry? Enough skincare products?”

Neither Mica nor Madam Dorothy had an answer to that.

Wendy quickly smoothed things over. “Mica doesn’t think before she speaks. Please don’t be offended, Arbor, Olivia.”
She then took out a small box. “I wasn’t sure what Serena liked, so I got her a bracelet.”
Inside was an emerald bracelet
–
the rich green hue set off Serena’s skin beautifully.
Even Thanos and Lebron were pleased. The atmosphere finally cased.
Neither Madam Dorothy nor Mica had prepared a gift for Serena, and both thought Wendy was wasting her money. A wild girl like that – was it really worth it? It wasn’t as if she’d ever remember the kindness and return it.
But in the next second, Serena pulled out a small bottle.
“I don’t know what Aunt Wendy likes, so here’s a bottle of candy we all eat at home.”
Mica snorted.
Kelly hid a smile behind her hand.
Wendy glanced at Serena, her expression steady.
She had always liked girls. Once, when she was pregnant with her second child, she’d lost the baby after her husband’s affair, and with it, the ability to have more children. She’d divorced, taken half his assets, and poured her love into Kelly, treating her as her own daughter. That was why she maintained a good relationship with the second branch.
As for Serena, Wendy didn’t have strong feelings about her either way. Like Nathan, she assumed any child abandoned by their biological parents must have some issues. Still, Lebron and Olivia seemed fond of her · – but Wendy couldn’t help keeping her guard up.
“Thank you.” Her tone was warm and polite, but Serena could sense the distance in it.
“If Aunt Wendy prefers money, I can give you that instead,” Serena said.
Wendy was momentarily at a loss for words.
“This is fine,” she replied, her smile still beautiful, though a shade cooler.
Serena didn’t say anything more.
For her first meeting with her adoptive family’s relatives, there was no big welcome or
– no speeches, no toasts. Just a meal. The elders made a few casual comments

berkeren bites, then launched into the family’s history with self–importance.

The message was clear straighten up, don’t embarrass the Morrows, and try to be more like
Kelly.
When the meal was nearly over, Wendy brought up something serious. “Arbor, I heard you’re planning to buy GoldCure?”
Madam Dorothy, who had been heading upstairs, suddenly slowed her steps. Mica regretted not slipping away sooner.
What kind of person barges into a matter like this instead of avoiding it?
But Wendy seemed unconcerned. To her, this was important. With GoldCure’s high price, the whole family needed to work together. She took out a card. “I have two million here. It’s not much, but take it to help for now.”
It sounded sincere, and Serena thought perhaps this Aunt Wendy wasn’t so bad after all.
Mica nearly choked on her own blood, but grudgingly said, “Our finances are tight right now. But if Arbor really needs it, he can use that four hundred thousand.”
