When the GF9 Test Subject Became His Obsession novel Chapter 70

From the back, he pulled out a bag of cash and handed it to Serena. “For the shock.”

Serena said nothing. This man was starting to suit her taste.

The Maybach pulled away right under Zachary’s nose, leaving him utterly dumbfounded.

What the hell just happened? That wild man he’d found to save Serena had just driven off with her?

In Celeste’s mind, she ran through a dozen scenarios of how Patrick might deal with Serena.

Patrick was no saint. After hearing her tearful story today, there was no way he’d let Serena off easy.

Serena might be a country bumpkin, but she wasn’t bad-looking. Who knew…

“Celeste, what are you smiling about?” Angela frowned. She hadn’t been sleeping well lately, and it showed in her worn-out face.

“Call Zachary, see why he isn’t back yet.”

“Oh, alright.” Celeste pulled out her phone and dialed. The ringtone came from the doorway.

She froze. So soon?

Hurrying forward, she pulled Zachary aside. “Where’s Serena?”

“She got rescued!” Zachary said irritably.

He was the one who’d called for help, but that ungrateful Serena hadn’t even said thank you—let alone mentioned the console.

He slung his backpack off and dropped it on the sofa, sulking heavily.

Celeste’s face drained of color. She thought of the people who’d dumped the six state basketball players into a dumpster and shivered involuntarily.

She clenched her fists, gritting her teeth. Serena, how is it that even this can’t take you down?

Why? Why is it so unfair? You’re just a country bumpkin—so why can’t I defeat you?

After dinner, during prime time, the sports channel aired a piece of news.

“The Stonehaven state basketball team has been caught playing dirty, injuring a high school student. Here’s a list of similar incidents over the years involving Hector and his team…”

Haven High School’s campus forum quickly reposted the news, setting off another wave of discussion.

“The higher-ups confirmed it was the state team playing dirty and injuring our classmate. Let’s see how the athletic department smears us now!”

“Hahaha, karma’s real! The student council’s done for this time!”

And this man was Celeste’s childhood friend—her protector.

Finally, Celeste slept soundly.

The next morning, a supercar rolled through the school gates. Its flashy design and dazzling paint job set off a wave of excitement.

“Oh my God, Taylor’s back!”

For the starry-eyed girls, spring had arrived again.

Meanwhile, Olivia had taken Lebron to the hospital first thing for follow-up bloodwork and an IV drip, leaving no time to make breakfast.

Thanos blew this month’s allowance at the food truck behind the school, picking up two egg-and-cheese burritos.

Serena grabbed a hard-boiled egg, a plain long john donut, a cup of hot cocoa, and a sesame-covered donut hole.

“I want a breakfast rice ball too—with two slices of pork tenderloin inside…”

Voices called out orders all at once, but the vendor only had two slices of pork left.

Serena tilted her head—someone was competing with her for food?

And there stood Patrick. Even with the added mask covering more of his face today, he couldn’t escape Serena’s sharp eyes.
