“You think someone like that still belongs in the student council?”
Taylor rarely lost his temper—but Serena had truly crossed a line.
A face-off between the freshman Devil from Class 19 and the High School King? She wouldn’t last three moves.
The look Taylor gave Serena just now was downright terrifying.
He always carried himself like a refined gentleman, a scientific prodigy who seemed detached from the world. But today, they saw something new—real, human anger.
Solstice and the others couldn't help silently lighting a candle for Serena.
Meanwhile, Serena was focused on her phone.
Sean had messaged her early that morning, going on and on in his usual naggy way.
“This time the seminar finally has someone decent. And he’s local to Evervale City too—just so happens he’s at Haven High School. Since you’re close by, you could check him out in person. If you’re satisfied, we could consider bringing him into our research institute…”
Sean was extremely nervous. It felt like a family trying to have a second kid but needing the firstborn’s approval. And this firstborn just happened to be the precious darling of three national academicians and nine state-level scholars. As the Deputy Director, Sean didn’t even rank as a nanny—more like a water-fetching handmaid.
The next second, Serena opened the file containing Taylor’s profile…
Solstice stood up abruptly and offered his entire breakfast. “You’d better eat while you still can.”
Your good days might be over—cherish them.
Rowan’s eyes reddened slightly. He handed over his half-finished milk too.
Serena was speechless.
Sure enough, just a few minutes later, Shiloh came into the classroom.
“Serena, come with me to the Main Office.”
She clearly looked flustered, sipping water nervously. Before they even made it halfway, she suddenly ran off to the bathroom. “You go ahead—I’ll catch up!”
“Mm.” Serena replied mildly, eyes still on her phone as she slowly made her way over, reading the files Sean had sent.
Just as she reached the Main Office and was about to knock, a large hand reached past her and knocked first.
She turned around. It was Taylor.
His gaze was piercing and complex—like some kind of twisted geometric puzzle.
Three parts anger, three parts disdain, three parts indifference, and the remaining part—pure hostility.
Teachers like them could only ever hope to earn the title of Outstanding Educator. As for what direction the doors of Horizon Research Institute even faced—they’d never get close enough to find out.
“Taylor, Celeste grew up with you. Don’t forget about her when you get the chance.”
Playing the connection card already?
Sequoia rolled her eyes. “Kelly from our class has the top talent in the entire grade. Taylor, as student council president, you should consider the long-term development of the school. Don’t play favorites…”
Back when Sequoia and Vesper had fought over which class Taylor would belong to, they nearly came to blows. The principal had to step in and declare Taylor a special student of a top Howerton University professor—meaning he didn’t belong to any single class. That was the only reason they’d backed off.
Now they were practically lining up to hand their students over to him.
After all, if Taylor ever introduced them to a few big names, they wouldn’t have to worry about their careers ever again.
Taylor nodded politely to all of them, but his peripheral vision never left the girl by the door.
Serena was still scrolling through the file Sean had sent. Taylor’s academic achievements were impressive—he really did deserve his reputation as a genius. The dossier even included various award photos. In them, the boy smiled like sunshine, a far cry from the current version standing in front of her.
Serena looked up at him.
Taylor instantly sensed her gaze and turned around—but she had already lowered her head and gone back to reading.
