Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change? novel Chapter 1264

Sherilyn was stunned. Karol had an abortion? Recalling what she'd said on the yacht, it suddenly made a grim sort of sense.

"Well, if you're alright, I need to get back to work," the nurse said.

"Of course, thank you."

Sherilyn nodded, a sense of melancholy washing over her. When she first met Karol, it was obvious she was ambitious and driven. There was nothing wrong with that, but she had chosen the wrong path to achieve her goals.

"Sherilyn…" A nurse called from the doorway.

"I'm here." Jenna's test results were ready.

"You can come in now."

"Okay."

The results were positive. Jenna's health was improving steadily day by day. "You've been taking excellent care of her. Just keep it up," Dr. Dalton said with a smile. "In another two months, she'll be able to live and play just like any other child."

"Thank you, Dr. Dalton."

Overjoyed, Sherilyn left the office with a smile on her face. She had no idea that the moment she was gone, Gilbert emerged from an adjoining room.

"Mr. Harrison." Dr. Dalton stood respectfully. "You heard everything."

"Yes." Gilbert nodded his thanks. "I appreciate it."

"It's my duty, sir."

Gilbert's joy was just as profound as Sherilyn's, if not more so. He didn't dare think about whether Sherilyn would have other children in the future… but for him, Jenna was his only child. Everything he had would one day be hers.

*My Jenna,* Gilbert thought silently, *you must grow up healthy, safe, and happy.*

"If you don't…" The stranger gestured in a different direction. "Then come with me."

"Where are you taking me? What do you want?" Karol asked, her brow furrowed.

The stranger paused, then chuckled. "You're certainly cautious. But given your situation, caution isn't much use to you anymore. If you trust me, follow. If not… then forget this ever happened." With that, the stranger turned and walked away.

Staring at their retreating back, Karol clenched her fists. After a moment of intense deliberation, she gritted her teeth. "Wait!" she called out, running to catch up. "Hurry!"

On the way back from the hospital, Sherilyn received a call from Francis.

"Hello, brother Francis?" she answered, confused. "Is everything okay? Is Grandma alright?"

"Don't worry, it's not that," Francis said, his tone heavy. "Sherilyn, I haven't been a good brother. I've failed you."
