"What would you like to eat?" Sylvia was thrilled. "I'll have them start preparing right away..."
As the two of them were chatting, there was a knock on the door. "Come in."
The door opened, and Francis and Gilbert walked in, one after the other. "Grandma."
"Grandma."
The two brothers, who shared no blood relation, looked remarkably similar, even standing at nearly the same height.
"Well, look at you two," Sylvia's face lit up with even more joy. "Did you plan this? Arriving together?"
"Yes," Francis confirmed with a faint smile.
"Hmph," Sylvia shot her older grandson a playful glare. "Would it kill you to say one more word?"
"Grandma," Gilbert chimed in immediately, "Francis and I had a business meeting today. When we finished, we decided to come over together." His eyes crinkled into a smile. "We were hoping to get a free meal out of you. Are you going to feed us?"
Sylvia snorted, but she was clearly smiling. "As if I'd ever let you leave here hungry." She pulled Gilbert down to sit beside her. "You're so much better... not like Francis, who's so quiet. You ask him a question, you get a one-word answer."
"You spoil me, Grandma. Tonight, I'm going to eat one more bowl of rice than Francis!" Gilbert joked, delighting the old woman.
"Yes, yes, of course!" Sylvia laughed heartily.
Francis remained silent, used to this dynamic. He turned his head and looked at Sherilyn. "You're here, Sherilyn." They had seen her as soon as they walked in. Francis just hadn't had a chance to greet her, while his brother was likely forcing himself to remain composed.
"Yes," Sherilyn replied with a polite nod and a smile.
