Evelyn wore a simple dress, her soft golden waves framing a face that looked barely past 20. Yet there was nothing girlish about her presence. She carried herself with quiet elegance and the kind of natural authority that made people lower their eyes without thinking.

She checked the time. She had originally planned to head upstairs and say hello to Yereah herself, but Carl had told her that Darius wanted her to wait downstairs, so she remained where she was, standing in silence.

“Mom.”

Darius stepped out through the revolving door. Yereah came with him, hands tucked into his pockets.

“Mrs. Blackwood.” Yereah gave her a polite nod.

“Mrs. Blackwood.” Carl stepped forward and took the things from Evelyn’s hands without being asked.

Evelyn inclined her head, then smiled warmly at Yereah. “Yereah, you’ve been looking better and better lately. Quite handsome too.”

Yereah looked a little embarrassed and only answered with a faint smile.

Then Evelyn invited him in an earnest tone. “Darius’s bonding ceremony is coming up soon. You must come and witness it.”

Yereah’s brows lifted slightly, and he glanced at Darius on instinct.

With that, Evelyn took Darius to the car, and the vehicle slowly pulled away. Yereah let out a quiet laugh, slid his hands back into his pockets, and turned to head into the building.

Inside the car, Evelyn looked at Darius and asked evenly, “Darius, is Thora coming back soon? Did she tell you exactly when?”

Darius kept his eyes forward. “Soon.”

Evelyn frowned ever so slightly and didn’t press further. That answer was almost no answer at all.

The car drove toward the most luxurious commercial district in Starlance City and soon stopped in front of a towering building.

Evelyn had practically dragged Darius out shopping today. She said she wanted to choose a bonding gift for Thora.

Since it was for Thora, Darius hadn’t refused. He only lifted his gaze to the blue sky above and thought silently, Thora, you really are coming back soon, right?

At Blue Star Military Academy, Thora said her goodbyes to Tristan, Shirley, and the others before packing up to leave.

No one wanted to see her go, but each of them had secretly made up their mind to graduate as quickly as possible and catch up to her one day.

Only Shirley’s farewell was far too emotional. Every time she had to part with Thora, she acted as if it were a

matter of life and death.

“Thora, boohoo, just stuff me in your pocket and take me with you!”

She clung tightly to Thora’s arm and refused to let go.

She had come to the military academy for Thora in the first place. Now that Thora was leaving, more than half her motivation for staying was gone.

In the end, Tristan stepped forward, hauled the sobbing Shirley up with one hand, and held her in place as he said solemnly to Thora, “Boss, take care. Once we graduate, we’ll come find you.”

Luke’s mouth twitched. Something about that sounded strange, almost like they were prisoners waiting to get released.

Felix kept staring at Thora without blinking, grievance written all over his face. He had worked so hard to get into Blue Star Military Academy, and now Thora was graduating already. The next time they met would be at least two years from now. He stood off to the side looking wilted and dispirited.

Thora frowned. She had almost scolded him, but in the end she held it back and only said, “I’ll come back to see you when I have time.”

The moment they heard that, everyone lit up.

Ryan had come to see her off too. He stood nearby, hesitating, with too many words stuck in his throat and none of them spoken.

As if she could read his mind, Thora said, “Once you graduate, I’ll submit a transfer request to the military for you.”

Ryan straightened at once. “Yes, Boss!”

The others exchanged smiles. They all respected Ryan’s ability, and they all understood what Thora intended.

They were soldiers. Their farewells were never long or sentimental. After a few final reminders, they each went their separate ways. Only Shirley was dragged off by Tristan by force.

She wanted desperately to follow Thora, but she knew Thora would be angry, so she could only stay behind unwillingly.

Fortunately, Tristan, Luke, and the others were still at the academy, so it wouldn’t be unbearably dull. After making a fuss for a while, she finally settled down.

The cadets who had received their diplomas began leaving one after another. Strangely, Tobias had disappeared the moment he got his. He had clearly left in a greater hurry than anyone else.

At the dock on Specter Island, a ship had already been prepared. Tobias went straight aboard. The guards stationed there saluted at once.

As he entered the cabin, a soldier in a dark military uniform respectfully handed him a dark red military

coat.

“General Whitmore.”

Tobias took the coat and draped it over his shoulders before walking farther inside.

At the same time, the ship slowly pulled away from the dock and headed toward the west coast of the ocean.

Tobias picked up a glass of red wine and took a small sip. For no clear reason, a sense of foreboding rose in his chest.

Ten minutes after the ship had fully left the harbor, a speedboat approached without a sound.

On its deck stood a tall, slender young man, facing the sea with his body perfectly straight.

As the two boats drew nearly parallel, the young man suddenly lifted his arm and turned his head. His eyes were cold as he looked toward Tobias’s cabin, the muzzle of his gun’trained directly on the figure inside.

A chill ran sharply down Tobias’s back. He reached instinctively for the pistol at his waist.

Then, in the reflection on the cabin glass, he saw it. A black gun barrel pointed straight at him.

Thora’s finger moved. A shot tore through the air.
