CHAPTER 21
Amelia
As soon as Ethan stands next to me and pulls me into his arms, I feel like the weight of the world just rolled off my shoulders. His presence alone puts me at such ease, I can finally breathe again.
I don’t bother speaking as Ethan pulls Logan into a friendly discussion.
“Alpha Logan, I’m happy you decided to visit us, but I can’t help but wonder why you have arrived alone. I’m sure I mentioned that your Luna is more than welcome to join us on the invitation. Why didn’t she accompany you?” Ethan asks and glances at me, flashing me a quick, reassuring smile.
Logan huffs out an angry breath, a sound I’ve heard too many times to count as he brushes off Ethan’s polite questions. “She just didn’t,” is all Logan offers as an explanation.
Truth be told, the same as Ethan, I too wonder why Katherine didn’t join Logan. She’s extremely clingy, she goes everywhere Logan does, or at least used to do that in the past, so it’s odd to see him travel anywhere without his beloved Luna.
Ethan doesn’t let Logan’s short and sharp answers discourage him from keeping up the conversation. He asks more polite questions, tosses in some lighthearted jokes and chuckles when it’s appropriate.
Logan, on the other hand, acts like a cold hearted ass rather than a professional Alpha, all while glaring at me so intensely that I feel like my skin might be set on fire.
After a couple minutes of the torture, Ethan urges Logan we all should sit down for dinner. I breathe out in relief as Ethan guides me to the table, pulls out a chair for me and sits right next to me. I do feel much better with him by my side.
Logan takes a seat across from us and soon after, the food is served.
I get two minutes of silence at best until Ethan clears his throat and speaks up again. “Al Logan, I would like to discuss the truce agreement. The situation between our packs has turned too hostile over the years, that has to be fixed.”
Logan pins Ethan with a glare and growls. “I didn’t come here for the stupid agreement, I’m here to take Amelia back. She doesn’t belong here, this charade has gone on for long enough, it’s about time she returns home.”
“No,” I blurt out before I can stop myself.
I don’t understand why now, all of a sudden, Logan wants to drag me back to that awful pack. He already rejected me and drove me out of there so I have nothing worth returning to.
And besides, Katherine is back, Logan got his Luna and I have a new life in Deadfang. Returning back to the very place I barely escaped means only more pain and heartache.

CHAPTER 2

Logan grips the fork in his hand so hard, his knuckles turn white. I steal a glance at his face and quickly look away – his skin is bright red and he looks seconds away from exploding.
As always, Ethan is ready to jump in and stand up for me, yet another reason why I admire him.
He clears his throat and speaks calmly. “With all que respect, Alpha Logan, I must point out that Amelia has officially been accepted into my pack. She has already become a valued, respected and loved member of Deadfang. Whatever reason you have to believe she must return is irrelevant here, you have no right to demand my pack member to follow you into your territory. I won’t allow it.”
I believe Ethan has no idea how truly grateful I am for every word he says. Not only is he pointing out that I’m just as worth fighting for as every member of his pack, but he’s making it clear I belong here.
But, while his words move me, they also make the tension way worse.
Logan growls again, louder this time and I can see how much he’s struggling to contain his anger. “Amelia never received my permission to leave the pack. She simply left, which means her ties with my pack aren’t broken even if she’s accepted in yours.” He insists.
Ethan shakes his head and parts his lips to argue, but Logan slams his fist against the table and stands up so fast, his chair falls over. “I demand you honor the law and don’t stand in my way. Amelia has to return to my pack and only after she goes through with the pack rejection ritual will she be free. Until then, she’s still mine
Ethan laughs in Logan’s face and stands up too, but unlike Logan, he’s not rushing. I admire how he’s capable of staying this calm even while the rival Alpha is clearly struggling to remain calm.
“Alpha Logan, the ritual you’re speaking of is meant only for an Alpha and his Luna, n regular pack members. I believe you have your facts and laws twisted. Katherine is you everyone knows that. Amelia has always been a regular pack member, which means sh the right to leave your pack, even without your permission.” Ethan lists off, his voice st calm, but there’s coldness to it I haven’t heard from him before.
Logan looks completely stunned, still insanely angry, but caught off guard enough to rema silent.
While Logan’s eyes dart between Ethan and me, Ethan sits down again.
I turn my head to look at Logan, steady my voice and speak as I would to a stranger. “Alpha Logan, I belong to the Deadfang pack and if it’s up to me, I don’t plan to change it anytime soon, if ever. I’d like to remind you that the purpose of this event is to discuss the possibility of a truce between the packs and if you haven’t arrived here for that reason, you shouldn’t have come at all.”
