You Cheated I Moved On novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5 Takes Your Marriage Seriously

“I guess not,” Julian muttered, his mood sour.

Lauren’s back throbbed worse by the second. She’d rushed Jane off earlier, eager to join her bridge game, but now had no choice but to stay and tend to Julian.

Chloe didn’t slow down, either. Revenge and work waited for no one.

By 7 PM, she left the magazine office to find a black Maybach parked in front of her.

The window rolled down, and a man in a black suit stepped out, bowing respectfully. “Ms. Shaw, I’m the Price family’s driver. I’ve been sent to take you to meet Mr. Price.”

Silent, Chloe slid into the back seat as the driver held the door open.

The car glided smoothly down the road; she’d expected the Price family’s place, but they pulled up to an exclusive private restaurant instead.

Led by a waiter to a private room at the end of the hallway, Chloe pushed open the door and spotted a man seated by the window.

He wore a simple navy suit, had neatly cropped hair, and sported gold-rimmed glasses.

She walked in and cut to the chase before he could speak. “Is Ethan not here?”

At her question, Liam Harris froze for a moment, then smiled faintly, “How did you know I’m not Mr. Price, Ms. Shaw?”

“I was told Ethan’s in poor health. You look perfectly energetic.” Chloe sat across from him, unperturbed.

Her long curls cascaded over her shoulders, light makeup accentuating her gentle features—but a sharp glint in her eyes revealed she was no pushover.

“I’m Mr. Price’s assistant, Liam Harris. You can call me Liam.”

“Nice to meet you. What did you want to talk to me about?” Chloe matched his polite tone.

“Mr. Price intended to meet you in person, but his health prevents it. He asked me to speak on his behalf.”

“Is he too ill to leave the house?” Chloe frowned, a sudden thought crossing her mind. “Does that mean there’s a chance he…” She raised an eyebrow, her implication clear.

Liam’s smile faltered. He hadn’t expected Chloe to be so straightforward.

“Your concern is unfounded, Ms. Shaw. Mr. Price suffers from chronic injuries—there’s no risk of him passing away prematurely.”

“I see.”

Liam said, pulling a portfolio from his bag and handing it to her, “The Price family takes your marriage to Mr. Price very seriously. I’m here to ask about your preferences for the wedding dress and ring.

“These are custom designs from top designers—let me know which ones you like, and we’ll have them made right away.”

Inside the portfolio were over a dozen wedding dress sketches and dozens of ring designs, each more exquisite than the last.

A sharp twinge of bitterness washed over Chloe—her wedding to Julian had no dress, just a small dinner with relatives, and her ring was a flimsy silver band.

Back then, Julian had said, “I made this myself. It’s one of a kind, just for you.”

She’d been moved to tears. Now, Chloe felt foolish. Julian could easily afford hundred-thousand-dollar or million-dollar rings—yet he’d fobbed her off with a cheap trinket, because that was all he thought she was worth.

“Ms. Shaw?” Liam called softly, noticing her distant expression.

Chloe snapped out of her thoughts. Instead of heading straight to pick out a wedding dress and ring, her amber eyes settled on Liam.”May I ask a question?”

Chapter 5 1

Liam adjusted the glasses on the bridge of his nose. “This was stipulated in your adoptive parents’ will. They had a close private relationship with the Price family.

“If Ms. Shaw had a harmonious relationship with the young master of the Summers family, the will would have been executed according to their original wishes—your entire inheritance would be donated, and the marriage arrangement would be canceled.”

Over dinner, Liam discussed the wedding details with her, making it clear the Price family planned a grand celebration.

Chapter 5 2

“Get back here immediately! Tomorrow, take me to see Dr. Sterling.” Her tone was dismissive, like ordering a maid.
