You Cheated I Moved On novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7 Going Too Far

“What is it?” Chloe asked, feigning curiosity with a soft tone.

“You work at Velocity Magazine, right?” Julian hesitated, choosing his words carefully. “Jane’s not leaving the country after returning this time. She wants to work at your magazine. Can you talk to your editor-in-chief and get her a job there?”

Chloe nearly laughed out of anger.

Julian knew full well that she and Jane were enemies. Ever since Chloe was reconnected with the Crawford family, Jane had sabotaged her at every turn.

Tormenting her at home wasn’t enough; now Jane wanted to follow her to work.

Chloe said, pulling away from him with a cold expression, “I don’t make the decisions at the magazine. She’s a war correspondent. Plenty of top domestic media outlets would jump to hire her. Why does she have to work at mine?

“You seem overly concerned with Jane’s business. Could there really be something inappropriate between you two?” Chloe pressed, her eyes locking straight onto his.

Panic flashed across Julian’s face.

Guilt sharpened his tone. “What are you talking about? I only asked because you’re a top journalist there.”

He never would have brought it up if Jane hadn’t begged him.

“Then I refuse. I’m tired. I’m going to take a shower and sleep. I have to fetch Dr. Sterling tomorrow,” Chloe said firmly.

She pushed Julian away, grabbed her pajamas, and headed for the bathroom.

When she emerged, Julian was gone—along with his pillow and pajamas.

With Jane staying, he’d seized the excuse of their fight to sleep in the guest room, a decision Chloe welcomed.

She’d been dreading sharing a bed with him.

Climbing into bed, Chloe called Tatiana to report her victory.

Getting 500 thousand dollars from them—even if it was Jane who paid—filled her with satisfaction.

After a restful night, she woke at 6 AM, planning to go for a morning jog.

The moment she opened her door, the guest room door across the hall snapped shut, a flash of pinkish-white nightgown visible as it closed.

She scoffed, changing her mind and dragging a chair to sit by her door, scrolling through her phone.

Half an hour later, rustling sounds reached her ears. Chloe swung her door open abruptly, catching Jane stepping out of the guest room in a pinkish-white camisole nightgown.

At that moment, their eyes met.

Jane froze, startled by Chloe’s sudden appearance. A faint red hickey stood out on her neck. “C-Chloe…”

She had gone to fetch water earlier, but hurried back the moment she heard Chloe’s door open.

After waiting a full half hour—certain that Chloe had finally left—Jane stepped out again, only to come face-to-face with her once more.

Chloe’s face hardened as she strode toward Jane.

Without a word, she raised her hand and struck—a sharp, stinging slap that left Jane’s cheek burning and a crisp crack ringing down the hall.

Julian rushed out at the sound, arriving just in time to see Chloe standing over Jane, a vivid red handprint already rising on Jane’s right cheek.

“Julian…” Jane finally snapped out of her daze, bursting into tears and throwing herself into Julian’s arms.

After a moment of panic, Julian regained his composure and accused Chloe first, “What do you think you’re doing?”
