You Wed Your Past I Wed My Future novel Chapter 26

Chapter 26

When Stephanie returned to her desk, she saw a new message on her phone. She checked to see what it was and saw that it was Adrian who messaged her.

“I apologize. We were secretly photographed by the paparazzi this morning. I already have my people working on removing all those tabloid reports. The pictures will be scrubbed from the internet as well. If this causes any trouble for you let me know. I’ll deal with it.”

Based on the articles that had been released, it was clear that the paparazzi were sneaking pictures of Adrian. Stephanie had been caught in the crossfire because of him.

Feeling guilty, he sent her this message.

Stephanie promptly texted him back. “It hasn’t caused any issues for me. Don’t worry about it.

She did feel displeased when she saw those paparazzi shots, but her displeasure was directed at the paparazzi. Adrian hadn’t done anything wrong.

Adrian didn’t respond to her message. It seemed like he was probably busy, and she didn’t mind that. She threw herself into her work as well.

Although the project was in its final stages, there was still plenty of work to do. She also had other tasks to take care of, so she ended up working until the sun went down.

It was already way past working hours. When Stephanie finally looked up from her computer, all of her colleagues had already left.

She turned off the computer and started packing her things. Just when she was ready to leave, the door to Tyler’s office opened.

He stepped out and looked at her with the same loving, tender smile he used to give her when they first started dating.

“Are you leaving now, Steph?” he asked.

Stephanie frowned. She’d assumed that he’d left by now. After all, Kiara was no longer at her desk either.

“Yeah.”

Seeing how cold she was toward him, Tyler figured to himself that she was still angry. Thus, he softened his expression and his tone. After walking up to her, he pulled out an exquisite- looking box, seemingly out of thin air.

“This is a gift for you.”

Stephanie didn’t reach out for it, so he took the initiative to open it up, revealing a pair of intricate sapphire earrings.

“Do you like them?” he asked.

She stared at the sapphire earrings in silence.

“You don’t like them?” Tyler asked, feeling rather taken aback. “I recall giving you a pair of sapphire earrings back when we were in college. You adored them and wore them quite often.”

Smirking, Stephanie pulled back her hair, revealing her earlobes, and said, “It’s been almost two years since I last wore earrings. The holes have already closed up.”

Tyler stiffened.

Had it been that long since Stephanie last wore earrings? They spent every day together, but he didn’t even know that.

“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t notice that,” Tyler said. He couldn’t even hide the sheepishness he felt. “I’ll find the time to accompany you to get your ears pierced again.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Stephanie replied as her gaze swept over the sapphire earrings. “I don’t like sapphire earrings anymore.”

“It’s fine. We can go and buy whatever you like,” Tyler said before putting the earrings away.’ I booked us a table at your favorite restaurant. Come. Let’s have a candlelit dinner.”

“I’m not hungry,” Stephanie flatly declined.

However, Tyler refused to give up. “Steph, I know that I’ve been neglecting you a lot because of Kiki. I know that’s why you’re unhappy. But you have to believe me. I really care a lot about you. It’s been ages since we had a nice, romantic dinner. Let’s have a proper date today, okay?”

Her patience was already worn thin. But when she looked up and saw Tyler’s face, which was still brimming with the same affection as before, something in her calmed.

“Fine. Let’s go.”

She was done with Tyler’s hypocrisy. Some words needed to be said.

Tyler smiled the moment she agreed to have dinner with him. He’d expected as much. She had always been extremely easy to placate.

Once they had their candlelit dinner, he would get someone to bring over the flowers and the other gifts he had prepared for her. By then, she would probably forget all about the fact that he’d abandoned her and rushed to Kiara’s side this morning.

Instead of calling for his driver, Tyler drove Stephanie to the restaurant himself.

Along the way, he kept bringing up anecdotes from their college days, but Stephanie stayed silent. Those memories would’ve felt sweet to her once, but now, they made her feel nothing.

When they arrived at the restaurant, the server led them to a table by the window on the second floor. It was the same spot they usually sat at.
