Chapter 27
Stephanie emphasized the word “divorce”. Her tone was laced with biting mockery.
But Tyler didn’t notice that. He was too stunned by the fact that she’d even brought up divorce
at all.
“W-What are you saying, Steph?” he exclaimed.
He couldn’t believe she’d just said that to him. As far as he was concerned, there was no way such a thing would ever happen.
Stephanie didn’t repeat herself. She simply looked at him, her expression calm.’
It took Tyler a while to regain his senses. Pressing his hand against his forehead, he let out a rueful laugh.
“I can understand why you’re throwing a tantrum, Steph, but how can you say that? You’ve gone too far. We’ve been together for so many years now, and we’ve already registered our marriage. How can you bring up divorce so flippantly?”
Before Stephanie could say anything, he continued, “I know you’ve had to put up with a lot lately, especially with what happened this morning. I know that’s my fault.”
“You can save it,” Stephanie said with a sneer. “I’ve made myself clear. I’m breaking up with
you.”
Previously, she held off on breaking with Tyler because she wanted to investigate the car accident and didn’t want to tip him off.
But now, she failed to unearth any clues while staying close to Tyler, and the most important witness was already dead.
Moreover, she realized that he seemed absolutely certain that he’d done a good job covering up the truth about the car accident. Even if she broke up with him, he wouldn’t suspect she was looking into it.
Thus, she figured she could bring up the breakup with him now.
Regardless of everything, she was indeed in a relationship with him. Now that she wanted to put an end to it, she had to do so openly and clearly to avoid any further harassment from him.
Tyler’s expression turned stormy. “Don’t push it Steph. I’m doing my best to appease you right now, but how am I supposed to do that when you’re taking this attitude with me?
“Yes, I admit I handled things wrongly this morning, but if you think you can use divorce to manipulate me, then you’re wrong about that.”
“Do you not understand my words, Tyler?” Stephanie questioned, her brows tightly knitted.” I’m breaking up with you. I want a divorce. I want to cut off all ties with you. Do you get it now?

“Stephanie!” Tyler growled as he became even more furious. “Just how much longer do you intend to kick up a fuss? I went out of my way tonight to have dinner here with you just to try and please you. Why don’t you appreciate that? You never behaved like this before! Why can’t you be as understanding as you were in the past?
Was she supposed to be the same person she was in the past? The idiot who was constantly getting fooled by him?
“I admit that I’ve been neglecting your feelings ever since Kiki came back. But she’s my only sister, and she’s been abroad for many years. Now that she’s finally back in the country, is it wrong for me to treat her a little better? Plus, when she was abroad, she had an abusive ex- husband who traumatized her.”
The more Tyler said, the more self-righteous he became. “Even though she’s not your biological sister, don’t you feel even the slightest bit of sympathy for her?”
He twisted everything around, making it seem like it was all Stephanie’s fault. His shamelessness nearly made her scoff in anger.
Tyler mistook her silence as a sign that she was softening her stance, so he softened his tone as well.
“That’s enough. Let’s stop arguing. I got you flowers and some other presents, Steph. They’ll be delivered later.”
“Kiara isn’t my biological sister,” Stephanie abruptly said. “And neither is she yours.”
