Chapter 25
Both speechless and amused, Stephanie asked, “And what explanation do I owe you?
“See for yourself!” Tyler retorted before shoving his phone over to her.
When she read what was displayed on the screen, her brows creased a little-only because she was irritated that she’d been photographed without her consent, of course. She didn’t feel the least bit guilty.
For one thing, there was nothing going on between her and Adrian. And even if she did have a thing with another man, Tyler was the last person in this world who had any right to rebuke her about it.
“Adrian Hawke was clearly picking on me by forcing me to drink all that red wine last night, but what did you do? You went right ahead and cozied up to him…” Tyler ranted, his fists clenched and his eyes red. “When did you stop caring about how I felt, Steph?”
Kiara chimed in to stoke the flames. “I know Mr. Hawke is handsome and is even the heir of the Hawke family in Jetterpolis, Ms. Ford, but you shouldn’t be embarrassing Ty like that either, right?”
“Looks like your wrist is fine, Ms. Grover,” Stephanie remarked coldly. “You seem to be healthy and in pretty good spirits to me.”
“Why, you…”
Kiara wanted to refute Stephanie, but she knew she didn’t have a leg to stand on. She’d only made a tiny nick on her wrist to cause a scene over it. That was why she could be so energetic
now.
She didn’t know how to respond to Stephanie, who was using this to mock her.
“Don’t change the subject!” Tyler growled as he shot up from his chair. “You and Adrian-”
“Mr. Hawke saved me,” Stephanie interjected, cutting him off. “He saved me when my life was at stake.”
Earlier this morning, Kiara hadn’t been standing all that near Stephanie and Tyler. The truck had been coming right at Stephanie. There was no way it could’ve hit Kiara.
And yet, Tyler’s immediate response was still to rush to Kiara’s side.
Nevertheless, Stephanie didn’t bother mentioning that. She’d already seen Tyler’s true colors and had given up on him. But what gave him the audacity to question her?
It was simply absurd.
With a mocking smirk, Stephanie continued, “When all you cared about was ensuring your beloved sister’s safety, it was Mr. Hawke who risked his life to save me. Am I supposed to keep my distance from him?”

At the mention of that, Tyler’s eyes flashed with guilt, but he quickly attempted to twist things in his favor. “Kiki was injured, so of course I had to look after her first. But that doesn’t mean I wanted anything to happen to you. You were perfectly fine then. I thought you could’ve avoided it yourself.”
“That’s right,” Kiara chimed in. “If you’d just reacted sooner, Ms. Ford, you could’ve avoided the truck yourself. No one asked you to just keep standing there.”
Stephanie whipped her head toward Kiara, her gaze as cold as ice.
Kiara instinctively shrank backward.
“Do you know I was in a car accident two years ago, Ms. Grover?”
Tensing up, Kiara raised her voice abruptly, shrieking, “Why should I know about that?”
“Oh? You don’t know about it, huh?” Stephanie remarked darkly. “Two years ago-”
“I don’t want to hear it!” Kiara shrieked as she covered her ears at once. “Who cares about what happened to you, Stephanie?”
“Why are you suddenly bringing up what happened two years ago for no reason?” Tyler snapped, his expression shifting as well.
Smirking, Stephanie replied, “I was just going to share about my past. I didn’t expect you to have such an extreme reaction to it, Ms. Grover.”
Both Tyler and Kiara stiffened.
“It’s still working hours, Mr. Grover. What you should be doing now is signing the document, “Stephanie said while jabbing a finger at the document on his desk.
Tyler felt as though her finger had jabbed him in the heart as well. A pricking pain rose in his heart. He swallowed twice, feeling like he should say something. But in the end, no words
came out.
He hastily scribbled his signature on the document.
After retrieving it, Stephanie turned to leave, but Tyler called out to her, “Steph, it was wrong of me to react like that just now. I was too harsh on you.
“But it’s only natural for me to feel upset when I see you hanging out with another man. You’re my wife. I-”
“Mr. Grover.” Stephanie cut him off with a flat expression. She didn’t want to hear the rest of what he had to say. “This is the office. Kindly refrain from speaking of such things.”
She walked out of the office.
Once the door closed, Kiara immediately started to sob. “Ty! Did you just call her your wife? Then what does that make me?”

“Don’t say such things anymore, Kiki,” Tyler said as he rubbed his forehead, feeling rather frustrated. “I already told you that I only got married to you on paper to help you out of a sticky situation. Steph will always be my wife.”
“But she’s already being so intimate with another man!”
After thinking about it for a moment, Tyler said, ‘It’s just as Steph said. She couldn’t possibly keep her distance from Adrian when he’d just saved her life. She loves me very much. That much is undeniable. She’s just mad at me right now.”
After all, he did choose to save Kiara over her this morning. That was no small matter. It only made sense that she was upset.
Tyler figured he had to do something to placate her this time.
Meanwhile, Kiara ground her teeth resentfully. After some time, she spoke up again, her expression uneasy. “Why did Stephanie bring up the car accident from two years ago just now? Could she have… found out the truth?”
“That’s impossible,” Tyler immediately replied. “Two years have passed. If she were going to find something suspicious about it, she would’ve done so a long time ago. There’s no way she would’ve only found it now. In any case, that man has already died in prison. Relax. You have nothing to worry about.”
“Thank goodness for that,” Kiara said with a relieved exhale.
However, she became infuriated once more when she recalled Stephanie’s earlier expression and how much Stephanie seemed to matter to Tyler, based on his reaction.
Kiara thought to herself, “Just you wait, Stephanie. Watch and see how I’m going to hit you where it hurts the most…”
