Chapter 30
Since it was only the four of them eating, they sat at a small dining table. That made it easy for Kiara’s foot to brush against Tyler’s leg.
Tyler glanced at her briefly but quickly looked away. He filled a bowl with soup before setting it in front of Stephanie. His expression remained normal, as if he and Kiara weren’t playing footsie under the table.
Tyler remained perfectly calm, not even glancing at her. Instead, he asked Stephanie gently, ” Why aren’t you having the soup? I remember you used to really like it.”
Stephanie cast a glance at the soup and said nothing. She did enjoy the soup Martha made, but since Tyler had served it to her, it only made her nauseated.
One of the main reasons why she’d asked to break up with Tyler today was that she’d overestimated her tolerance.
She could no longer put up with Tyler’s pretense, nor could she accept having any further physical contact with him. She was even repulsed when he moved nearer to her.
When it came to putting on an act, she was indeed nowhere near as skilled as Tyler.
Kiara continued brushing against Tyler’s leg under the table. Sitting at the same table with both Martha and Stephanie seemed to make things quite thrilling for her. She even started subtly sending flirtatious glances in his direction
All of a sudden, Martha had a short coughing spell.
Startled, Kiara instinctively retracted her foot.
“What’s the matter, Mrs. Grover?” Stephanie asked in concern.
“Everything’s fine. I’m used to it,” Martha said with a smile. “Come. Let’s eat.
It was only a brief interruption, but the unspoken tension lingered at the dining table.
After dinner, Martha chatted with Stephanie for a while, expressing a great deal of concern for her. However, she also brought up the topic of children, urging the couple to have one soon.
“Since you two have already registered your marriage, it’s best if you have a child while you’re still young. I can help you raise the child right here at Grover Manor. You don’t have to worry about a thing,” Martha said.
After some hesitation, Stephanie decided to preempt Martha about the fact that she and Tyler were going to split up.
“Mrs. Grover, I actually-”
“Why aren’t you resting yet, Mom?” Tyler walked over, interrupting her. “It’s late. You should go to bed. Steph has had a long day, too.”

“That’s true. It’s getting quite late. Get some rest Steph,” Martha said.
Tyler’s presence made Stephanie feel rather uncomfortable. She returned to her room without saying a word.
She’d already made up her mind. From tomorrow onward, she wouldn’t be staying over at Grover Manor anymore. No matter how much she liked Martha, that wasn’t enough to make her remain in a relationship with Tyler.
She would tell Martha about the breakup later, in her own time.
Not long after, Stephanie’s phone buzzed. She picked it, and when she saw who the caller was, her eyelashes trembled.
She swiped on the screen, and the call connected.
“Hey, Dad.”
“Hmph!” The stern voice of a middle-aged man came through the phone. “So you still acknowledge me as your father, huh?”
“Dad… I never said I stopped considering you as my father,” Stephanie replied sheepishly.
Back then, her father, Owen Ford, had strongly opposed her decision to be with Tyler when he found out about their relationship.
He’d said that Tyler wasn’t a good man and not someone she could entrust the rest of her life to. However, she’d refused to listen to him and stubbornly insisted on being with Tyler.
After graduating from college, instead of returning to Jetterpolis, she chose to remain in Hydroton to be with Tyler.
Owen had been so infuriated that he’d ignored her for years, turning a blind eye to her calls and messages. She’d tried to change his opinion of Tyler, to no avail.
However, whenever she had a video call with her grandmother, Bernadette Morel, she would hear Owen clearing his throat in the background,
Stephanie knew that Owen never stopped caring about her. He’d simply been too angry with her.
Now, she finally understood Owen’s warnings, and the guilt weighed heavily on her.
“You… Oh, never mind.”
Although Owen was still upset, he didn’t want to raise his voice at Stephanie. “What made you suddenly come to a realization and decide to come home?”
During a video call two months ago, Bernadette mentioned to Stephanie that Owen had arranged a marriage prospect for her.

Bernadette explained that Owen wasn’t trying to use her in a marriage of convenience. He simply didn’t want to see her carry on wasting her youth on Tyler. The groom he’d chosen for her was a decent, reliable man.
But at the time, Stephanie adamantly refused to go through with it. Owen had been beside Bernadette during the call, and the two argued.
A few days ago, Stephanie had sent Owen a message, informing him that she was willing to return home to help manage the family business and that she was also agreeing to the marriage alliance. Owen had simply replied with a curt acknowledgment of her message.
Nevertheless, he ended up calling her today.
“Dad…”
