Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 1073

'He's such a stud.'

The stakes of their bets were extremely high as they waited for the dealer to hand them their cards.

After the dealer handed them their fifth card, Shayne gestured at Samuel to go first as he said, "Since you've just returned home from England, Mr. Lane, you're the guest, so you can go first."

Samuel did not hold back and did not flip over his first draw but the second. It was a huge draw, as he flipped over a king of hearts.

All Shayne did was chuckle coldly as he played along and flipped over his second draw as well. It was a six of diamonds. It was a small card.

Samuel chuckled as he stared at Shayne's six of diamonds and said, "Oh President Jinn, I hope you've thought things through. Now it seems to me that I have a higher chance of winning."

Shayne was calm and did not panic since he had always been quite the calm gambler and was already used to high stake games that place bets on the higher value.

"What are you in a rush for? Only a single card has been revealed anyway, so how are you so sure that I'd lose, Mr. Lane? This could be a royal flush or a straight, you know."

Samuel chuckled and continued flipping his next card over. It was a ten of clovers and it was not considered a small draw either.

Shayne looked extremely elegant as he calmly said, "Quite the huge card you got there? Are you not raising the stakes?"

Samuel took a glance toward Yanny who seemed cold and elegant at the same time sitting beside Shayne. He spoke with a gentle tone while his gaze looked warm and nostalgic, "The bet that you made earlier, President Jinn is more than enough for me. It's no longer important to me if I were to raise the stakes or not in our card game because what I want is nothing more than her."

Shayne's gaze looked menacingly cold and seemed extremely intimidating. He then flipped over his next card revealing a ten of clovers as well. It was the exact same card as Samuel's.

Shayne chuckled and said, "It seems to me that it's very likely that I have a straight in my hands. I'll raise the stakes."

He pushed a pile of poker chips forward.

It seemed it was not enough for him to go all in since he was willing to raise the stakes further.

"Are you planning to bet your entire life savings against me, President Jinn?"

Shayne stared at him with a sharp gaze and cracked a calm smile before saying, "Oh Mr. Lane, do you actually think that my entire life's savings is only this little? You're looking down on me."

"But you seem to be betting with everything you got against me, President Jinn."

Shayne brushed him off and spoke in a carefree tone, "I am bold enough to bet with everything I have against you but I'm not sure if you're bold enough to do the same, Mr. Lane. Mr. Lane, you struggled hard to get to where you are today, so I suggest that you be a little humble. Don't lose everything on a single bet due to pride since what you have now is the result of you completely abandoning your first love back then. I'm afraid that you're not bold enough to pull through."

Shayne was known to be brutally blunt.

It seemed that although Samuel was a strong willed investor in London, he was not immuned to Shayne's silver tongue as he felt Shayne's words stab right through the soft parts of his heart.

Samuel felt as if a piece of fishbone was stuck in his throat.

Yanny was gripping her skirt tightly underneath the table. Her skirt was nearly soaked by the sweat from her palms.

She turned around to look at Shayne, gulped and asked him in a furiously cold tone, "Shayne Jinn, are you done messing around?"

However, Shayne ignored her.

He did not even take a single glance at her.

Yanny truly seemed like nothing more than an object as she was no different from the hostesses in the casino. No, she was worse than them since hostesses were replaceable at any random moment anyone was unhappy with them and they were able to be rewarded with heavy tips from happy customers.

Yanny felt that her dignity had been completely destroyed.

Shayne sure had quite the brutal way in humiliating someone. It was so brutal that what little hope she had to get back with him had completely faded away in that instant.

Samuel continued to flip over his third card. It was once again a ten, a ten of diamonds to be more specific. He had a pair of tens at the moment as he said, "President Jinn, the chances of me winning are significantly higher than you now."

He had a pair of tens and a King, so no matter what the final two cards were, Samuel had a seventy to eighty percent chance of winning at the moment.

Unless Shayne actually had a series of straight in his hands but everyone knew that would be very unlikely to happen.

However, Shayne remained optimistic as he cracked a grin and casually flipped over his third card. It was an eight of clovers.

Samuel said, "It's not a straight, so President Jinn, do you still want to raise the stakes further? If you back out now, we'll end our game here and we can pretend that our game has never happened."

Shayne chuckled casually as he said, "You're actually scared to continue playing even with the larger set of cards? Can I conclude that you're actually afraid of losing?"
