Heaton drove his black Spyker out of the Fudd family home.
His windows were lowered completely as the night’s breeze blew in, to somewhat alleviate his frustrations slightly.
He immediately made a phone call.
“I’ll be there immediately.”
A gentle female voice could be heard coming from the other end. “Okay, I’ll be waiting for you.”
Heaton arrived in front of an apartment and entered immediately, taking the elevator.
When he arrived at the door, he knocked on the door a few times before a young lady opened up. Although she was not as young and pure as Verian, she looked extremely gentle and elegant.
Lain Heidy bent over and placed a pair of slippers by Heaton’s feet. She said with a smile, “You haven’t come to me for a really long time. What’s up, old ailments came up?”
Heaton pouted his lips and after changing out of his shoes, he replied with a simple, “Yeah.”
After Lain shut the door, she followed behind him to the living room.
Lain poured a glass of water and handed it to him. “Drink some water first.”
After Heaton took a sip of water, he leaned against the recliner and spoke in a calm tone, “I’ve been dreaming recently when I sleep. I dreamed about Sammie calling me to save her again but I couldn’t do a thing.”
Lain sat in front of him and asked in a gentle tone, “How could it be? Didn’t you already stop dreaming about her?”
Heaton pouted his lips and refused to say anything as he directly avoided the question.
However, Lain happened to be a world-renowned psychiatrist, so how could she not guess what happened?
“Heaton, did you go to the beach again?”
There were only two reasons as to why he would be triggered. One would be Yanni Quain intentionally provoking him, and the next would be him recalling those memories at the beach.
“I took a trip to Regent Island.”
Lain frowned. “Regent Island was where Sam Joyce died. What did you go there for? I’ve told you before that if these were your regular demons, confronting them head-on would actually have a possibility of allowing you to get over the fear and even fully recover. However, Sam Joyce’s death was extremely traumatic to you. By confronting it head-on, it would either fully recover or destroy you.”
In the year of Sam’s death, Heaton was only twenty-two years old. Youths were keener to go wild then. However, after going through something this traumatic, he locked himself at home for a whole year and refused to meet anyone.
Lain was still a psychology student in medical school back then. After she learned about this, she immediately rushed home from the United States to help Heaton out. The entire process took half a year to have Heaton recover back into a normal life.
As ruthless and cold as Heaton was in the public market, only Lain knew that as strong as the man may seem, his heart was unimaginably fragile. Moreover, it was so fragile that it was lethal.
Back then, Heaton was unable to get over his traumatic experience with Sam and had been diagnosed with anxiety. Fortunately, it was not that serious, so Lain used a combination of medicine and therapy sessions to slowly bring him out of his trauma.
“I didn’t want to confront it but when I was on Regent Island, I thought how good it would be if I’d die there and I’ll finally be free from all the guilt and anxiety. Am I weak?”
Lain shook her head. “Heaton, how are you weak? You’re the strongest person I’ve ever met. Let’s put it this way as anyone with compassion would, perhaps you can never accept this guilt and your demons, and I know you blamed yourself for Sam Joyce’s death. However, it was an accident and you did not even it’d happen. You’re not god, and you’d have moments where you’d make misjudgments. So don’t be so hard on yourself, okay?”
“It was me being too overconfident in my judgment. It was me being too stubborn. The skies were extremely dark back then. I knew a storm was coming and the waves would be violent. However, I was too arrogant and I felt that I could handle this. Also, I didn’t believe our luck would be that poor.”
Lain asked again, “Why would you suddenly go to Regent Island? It isn’t the anniversary for Sam’s death yet.”
Heaton did not seem willing to tell her the reason, so Lain proceeded to drop it.
However, she could not help but wonder who exactly was Heaton looking for at Regent Island?
“Ever since Sam’s accident ten years ago, you stopped going to the beach, and even if it was Sam’s death anniversary, you’d head over to her grave to leave some flowers. Heaton, you went to Regent Island for someone, right?”
Could it be Little Jelly Bean’s own birth mother?
She knew Heaton had found Little Jelly Bean’s own birth mother recently and brought the woman back to live in the Fudd family home. Moreover, that woman was his legal wife on paper. Would it be for that woman?
However it was in such a short time, so how did Heaton Fudd even care so deeply for her?
