A sharp pain in his stomach woke Wilson up the following morning.
He glanced at the woman who was still sound asleep in his arms. He slowly got out of bed and went to the living room.
His phone rang just as he arrived in the living room. The caller ID showed that it was Thompson.
Thompson immediately yelled at him the moment he picked up the call.
"Wilson, do you have a deathwish?! As your head doctor, why am I always the last person to learn about your condition? Ruby told me last night that your gastric had recurred. Did you know I spent the entire night worrying about you? How could you be so stubborn as a patient?"
Wilson rubbed his brows; Thompson's voice extremely annoying. Ruby, that troublemaker, tended to stir up a storm all the time.
"Wilson? Are you listening to me?"
"Thompson, it's 8 a.m. here. You know I have a temper whenever I wake up."
The corner of Thompson's mouth twitched as he said, "Yes, I am well aware of your temper. However, you are in China, and I am in Rome. Why should I be afraid of you? If you're bold enough, come look for me in Rome!"
Wilson closed his eyes as he rubbed his temple with his long slender fingers.
Thompson continued to say, "Don't you remember you had stomach surgery for your cancer six years ago? Do you know the consequences of that if it recurred? Wilson, I know you're mature enough to care about your life, but you're acting rashly. Ruby told me that you're currently dating someone, and I think you screwed up your stomach because of your love life, right?"
"Ruby has a talkative mouth."
"If it weren't for Ruby, I would still be completely clueless about everything! Wilson, you're a doctor and a bloody good one at that. Don't you know you'd die if you don't care about your health?"
Wilson no longer wished to listen to Thompson's lectures, so he immediately hung up.
He reached out to touch his belly before he poured a glass of water to take his medicine.
It seemed like Thompson had gone completely ballistic as he spammed Wilson with a lot of text messages.
[Come back to Rome immediately for your treatment!!]
[Else I will come to North City!]
[Wilson Jarret, are you dead already?]
Wilson ignored the messages as he leaned back on the couch and recalled his memories from six years ago.
Serene had only turned 18 six years ago.
He had met her back then, and just as he was to enter her life, he found out that he had stomach cancer.
Hence, he continued to stay hidden from her.
Serene started to date Chainer three years ago. His stomach ailment had recovered significantly then, and when he returned to North City to look for her, she was already with another man.
He had placed her on a pedestal in his heart for ten years. Before he officially entered her life, he relied on any messages and information he could gather to learn about her.
The information he gained was from pictures and videos about her.
So, how could he give on her so easily?
…
Wilson leaned back on the couch and took a short break. Perhaps he was too exhausted as he yawned.
When Serene got out of her room, she noticed Wilson was asleep on the couch. She approached him to drape a blanket over him, but she woke the man up. The man immediately grabbed her hand.
"Did you wake you up?"
"No. I'm not that sound asleep anyway."
Wilson felt incredibly delighted when he hugged her soft body.
Serene moved her hand to touch his stomach as she asked in a caring tone, "Is your stomach still hurting? Do you want to go to the hospital for a checkup?"
When he locked himself in the washroom while he puked his guts out the previous night, it had utterly terrified her.
"Did I scare you?"
Serene shook her head as she replied in a severe tone, "I was only worried about your health."
