Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 639

Wilson brought Serene back to the Clear River Town upon returning to North City. They were there to discuss the wedding with her parents and retrieve Serene’s I.D so it would be easier for them to register for their marriage at the Civil Affairs Department.

Serene decided to listen to Wilson’s advice by resigning from her job since she had not been working for a really long time and she would soon need to start preparing for her wedding. Moreover, she would be going on a honeymoon after her wedding anyway.

It would not be too late for her to look for another job when everything was much more stable for her.

Serene had invited Verian out to try out a wedding dress together while Wilson was trying out a suit with Heaton.

However, in the end, the four of them never actually bought any dresses or suits. Instead, they went to a nearby restaurant and started playing cards. When Serene lost the card game, she was even trying to play coy and deny her loss.

“No way, I am now jobless and Wilson is unemployed. Are you actually okay with winning so much money from me, President Fudd?”

Just as Heaton was about to speak, Little Jelly Bean who was eating a donut beside them said something that surprised all of them, “Aunty Serene, you don’t have a baby yet but my daddy has me and my little brother and he needs to spend a lot of money on us. Besides, you and Uncle Wilson don’t even need to raise children yet.”

Serene blushed when she heard Little Jelly Bean’s remark while Verian laughed as she teased her, “See, Serene, we won’t feel guilty about winning your money.”

Not to mention, Heaton had previously told her that Wilson owned several stone quarries so why would he even care about such little pocket money!

Serene was annoyed and her heart wrenched at the little money she had lost. Serene mumbled when they arrived home that night, “Let’s not eat meat tonight.”

Wilson was stunned and felt a little puzzled. He actually thought she was feeling a little under the weather so he rushed over to her side and hugged her little waist as he asked in a concerned tone, “What’s the matter? Not feeling too well?”

“... No. We lost too much money today and I decided to save up a little more money.”

Wilson was speechless as he said, “Even if you don’t eat meat for a week, you won’t be able to save up much to make a difference anyway.”

“If a week wouldn’t make the cut then we’ll do it for a month! Wilson, I don’t want to play cards with them anymore next time. President Fudd is way too good at playing cards. If you had told me sooner, I wouldn’t have played that dumb poker game in the first place!”

Serene initially assumed she was a self-proclaimed professional poker player since she spent plenty of time playing poker on her cell phone when she was studying in university. She was the one who suggested they play a game of poker in the first place but Verian told her that she was not that good at playing cards. It was true that Verian was not that good in poker but that did not change the fact that she had an absolute professional on her side. Since Heaton was a businessman, it was only natural for him to profit entirely off this game. He was incredibly talented in counting cards and this just made Wilson and Serene’s loss even sadder.

Wilson stared at the woman with a funny look as he said, “I thought you wanted to play poker with them?”

“Yeah, because I asked what games President Fudd knew how to play and he said he occasionally plays poker. I actually thought he was not really that good and I fully intended to win some money from him. Who knew that when he said that he only played some poker games, he turned out to be him being an absolute expert in the game!”

Wilson laughed before patting Serene’s head with his huge hand as he comforted her, “Don’t worry, we’ll just win everything back from them next time.”

Serene immediately shook her head as she said, “I don’t want to play with them! What an absolute scam. If I played with him again, I’d basically be giving away free money to him!”

Serene frowned as she said while resting her chin on her palm, “I think I don’t have the talent of becoming a gambling champion. Say, you told me that you’ve never played poker in your life before but you played better than me back then on your first try. Maybe with enough practice, you’d be able to compete against Heaton’s skills. However, I think we shouldn’t play with him anymore. He is way too talented in counting cards.”

“Come on, we’ve only lost slightly more than a thousand bucks anyway.”

The instant Serene heard more than a thousand bucks being mentioned, she could not calm herself down as she immediately exclaimed, “More than a thousand bucks is little to you? Do you have any idea how much meat we could’ve eaten with more than a thousand bucks?”
