When they finished the tour, Yanni requested to see the surrounding area. So, Lucy had to accompany him.
Yanni drove, and Lucy sat in the back. He looked at her through the rearview mirror and asked, "How long have you known that man?"
Lucy was stunned; it took her a few moments to realize that he was asking about River. She decided to ignore him.
Yanni continued to ask, "What good is that man? He made you stay in such a poor and small place!"
Lucy felt as if Yanni had insulted them. She replied coldly, "River may not be as rich as you, but he makes me feel safe. He looks after me and will not force me to do things that I do not like. I'm the center of his life."
Yanni retorted, "So, I don't make you the center of my life?"
Lucy gulped. "That's different."
"How so?"
She thought back to when they were together. Did he force her to do anything that she did not like to do?
She took a deep breath. She wanted to break it off with Yanni once, and for all, so she said what she thought was the most hurtful remark. "River will never mention another woman's name in his sleep."
The atmosphere in the car immediately changed. Yanni did not ask her any more questions. He admitted that he still missed Sam and felt remorse, but it would not keep a relationship afloat. If he could not go after a woman he loved because of another person he had previously cherished, how was that different from emotional blackmail?
When they reached the town, Lucy randomly led Yanni around.
There were many stalls in town; some sold fruits, some sold kebabs, and there were also those who sold candies.
Lucy—due to her pregnancy—craved sweet or sour food.
