Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 677

Yanni slept extremely soundly that night. Perhaps it was due to the roller coaster of emotions he had to go through last night which had exhausted him tremendously. He had a mild fever in the middle of the night from being drenched by the rain, so he was able to fall asleep quite easily last night. He was in a severely dazed state when he woke up this morning since he did not even realize Lucy had already woken up.

Yanni noticed Lucy was nowhere to be found when he woke up. She was not by his side nor was she in the hostel. He suddenly recalled the night he passed out from being too drunk and woke up to Lucy’s disappearance. This thought made Yanni incredibly nervous.

“Lucy? Lucy!”

Yanni immediately pulled his covers aside, got out of bed, put his slippers on and went ahead to look for Lucy, wearing her bathrobe.

Lucy was out borrowing a shirt from River for Yanni to wear.

Since Yanni was completely drenched from head to toe in rainwater last night, all of his clothes were wet. Due to how rushed both Dan and Yanni came over, they forgot to bring any spare clothes to change into.

When Lucy woke up earlier, she washed Yanni’s clothes and left it out to dry. Since there were no washing machines or dryers around, she had to do everything by hand and let it dry naturally. However, the sunlight was not strong enough today and it seemed the clothes would only be dry tomorrow morning.

Lucy noticed River’s bruised and swollen face the instant he opened the door. He looked like a mess and his battered look seemed slightly hilarious. Lucy held back her laughter and began apologizing to him sincerely, “Mr. Burks, I’m truly sorry. Yanni shouldn’t have hit you last night.”

River seemed a little puzzled so he asked, “Just what kind of a relationship do you and President Quain share?”

Lucy had no reason to hide anything from him anymore since this situation had already progressed to such an extent. Thus, she honestly replied, “I kept it from you all this while because Yanni is the father of the child in my belly.”

River remained silent as he felt slightly frustrated. He frowned hard and said, “Lucy, you should’ve told me sooner.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t expect it would bring you this much trouble.”

The instant she said that, suddenly, she could hear a cold and menacing manly voice saying, “What are you apologizing for?”

Both River and Lucy looked toward the direction of that voice and they noticed Yanni, who was dressed in a light pink bathrobe and was walking over to them in slippers.

Yanni’s long legs were completely exposed underneath the bathrobe as it did very little to keep them covered.

This was the first time Lucy had ever seen Yanni in such a ridiculous outfit.

Yanni had always been a very intimidating and well dressed man. Even while he was at home, he also looked intimidating despite dressing casually. He would often try to act a little less intimidating whenever he was facing her. However, Lucy had never seen Yanni looking so casual before.

Lucy could not help but laugh out loud.

When Yanni approached her, he raised his brows slightly as he asked, “What are you laughing at?”

Just as Lucy was about to tell him, she realized River was still present so she held her tongue. She then said, “Nothing much. I’ll tell you about it later.”

Yanni immediately grabbed onto Lucy’s arm and stared at River with a menacing gaze as he said, “Mr. Burks, yesterday’s incident was a misunderstanding since it was you who had been taking care of my Lucy all this time. You know, I should really thank you since you, as her friend, immediately informed the first responders to rescue her up in the mountains when she was in trouble.”

River blushed after he was humiliated.

Although Yanni was thanking him on the surface, it seemed like there were clearly two different meanings behind the statement he made.

The first would be the emphasis on him being only Lucy’s friend. The second was him being an absolute coward when Lucy was in trouble.

Labeling him as only her friend would be better since no one would want to risk their own life in a life or death situation. However, River was constantly rambling about how much he loved her and it seemed that his love for her could barely hold up in this test.

Even without Yanni explicitly calling him out, Lucy was also aware of how hopeless of a person River was. However, if River actually showed up in the mountains for her, she would feel incredibly guilty and had no idea how she would be able to repay him.

Lucy reached out to secretly pinch Yanni’s fingers as a hint for him to stop.

Yanni felt her little gestures. All of his disdain and impatience toward River finally faded away from his eyes.

Lucy spoke with a smile, “Can I borrow two sets of clothing from you, Mr. Burks? Yanni’s drenched clothes from last night aren't dry yet.”

Perhaps River was taller amongst the male teachers since he seemed to stand at about 1.78 meters tall. However, even so, Lucy was not sure if Yanni and Dan could fit in River’s clothing since they were both quite tall as well. Yanni should stand at about 1.85 Meters tall.

River nodded and brought out two sets of clothes from his house. He said, “These clothes were a little too big when I bought them, but President Quain should be able to fit in them.”
