After being asked to leave the room, Shadow and Old K came downstairs and saw Ruby. She was sitting with her legs crossed on the carpet and playing around with the ice cream with a spoon.
Shadow glared at Ruby and pointed at her. “You better not play with Master Blaine’s feelings or I won’t forgive you!”
Old K was being nice by nodding his head at Ruby for fear that Master Blaine would tell them off. He smiled amiably as he pulled Shadow away. “Miss Softie, we’ll leave now. Shadow may have got on Master Blaine’s nerves. If you may, please calm him down a little.”
Ruby snorted as she looked at them leaving. She scoffed. “He was yelling at me and now he wanted me to say something for him? No way.”
It’s already good of her to not tell on them.
Shadow must have talked bad about her to Master Blaine.
He came at her like he was going to tear her to pieces and they expected her to put in a few good words?
Ruby got up and went to the study.
Blaine was sitting at his study table, looking thoughtful. Ruby knocked on the door. “Master Blaine?”
Blaine saw her and signaled for her to come in.
She walked toward him and he pulled her into his lap.
“Did you have a fight with Shadow and Old K?”
Blaine held the woman by her waist and squeezed lightly. “It wasn’t a fight. They just don’t like that I’m dating someone.”
Ruby chuckled. “Why don’t they let you date? It’s not a crime to be with someone. Besides, I’m not sure if they’ll remain single for the rest of their lives too. Furthermore, it’s your personal life. It’s got nothing to do with them.”
Blaine looked at her and told her honestly, “But I’m different. Everything I do isn’t supposed to be about just me or my family.”
Ruby played with Blaine’s hair behind his neck. “But what does you being in a relationship have to do with them?”
“A man can only do so much. You get distracted when you’re in a relationship. Shadow complained that I’ve been laxer and distracted these past few days. He’s right.”
Ruby pursed her lips. “If you can’t even date anyone freely, it’s inhumane.”
For someone with such an important position, it was true that one could not be happy and willful like everyone else. To laugh when you were happy and cry when you were sad... Blaine was meant to carry this burden with him throughout his entire life.
“I was actually a cry baby when I was little but my dad hated that fact.”
Ruby looked at his indifferent expression and smiled faintly. “I really couldn’t tell that Master Blaine was a crybaby. However, it’s normal for a kid to cry easily. It’s not a bad thing.”
“For everyone else, it’s not a bad thing indeed. Medically, crying can even help in releasing negative feelings. But I was born in the Glaceau family as my father’s successor and the next leader of the Dark Organization. My father told me that if my feelings and thoughts can be read by others, it would put me and the people around me in danger. Therefore, when I’m sad, I can’t cry. When I’m happy, I can’t laugh. I’m not acting nonchalant to appear intimidating. It’s so that they can’t tell what’s going on inside me and helps to keep everyone safe.”
Ruby put her arms around Blaine’s neck and buried her face there as she mumbled, “But you smile a lot when you’re with me. Are you not afraid that I can tell what you’re thinking and harm you?”
Blaine looked into her twinkling eyes. “Softie, I feel at ease and happy when I’m with you.”
She made herself sound somewhat regretful. “But your people forbid us from being together. What should we do?”
He wrapped his arms around her neck and touched her forehead with his, their nose touching each other. He let out a faint sigh and said, “Softie, you’re worth the risk.”
