Nadine lifted her head and glanced at Brad before looking away. His ridiculous words had hit a nerve. She had no desire to talk to him.

When it came to him, Nadine always felt as if she was talking to a wall. He wouldn't try to understand what she was saying and would always come up with absurd reasons to justify his views.

Brad frowned when she ignored him. Unwilling to tolerate her behavior, he sauntered over to her and kicked the barbecue grill beside her.

The soft metallic clink caught everyone's attention. Even Sean and Adam looked over.

Nadine pretended not to hear him and kept her head down, focused on washing the ingredients in her hands. She had no interest in Brad anymore. Although she still found him attractive, she no longer let her values be swayed by his looks.

Brad's good looks couldn't compensate for his flawed character. She wanted a husband who shared her values, and Brad clearly didn't fit the bill.

She'd learned not to fall for men as it only led to misery. She'd also been warned that love turned women into fools, and she wasn't about to let that happen to herself. Hence, when he deliberately tried to get her attention, she chose to ignore him.

Brad kicked the grill again, but when she didn't react, his frown deepened. When she turned her back to him and refused to acknowledge him, his temper flared. He gritted his teeth and spat, "I'm talking to you, Nadine Scott!"

Realizing how close he was to blowing up, Nadine, not wanting to ruin the gathering, responded, "Oh, so you do know my name. I thought you had amnesia because you kept calling me 'hey.'"
