Pushed aside, Brad felt indignant. He was just about to argue with Nadine when he noticed how gently she was washing the vegetables. He realized he'd definitely been doing it wrong.
Realizing his mistake, he felt too ashamed to stay near Nadine. With his tail between his legs, he scurried over to Adam and Sean. Plastering a smile on his face, he said, "Why don't you take a break, Grandpa? I'll do it instead."
Adam, who was used to being served, was thrilled to be doing something so mundane for a change. On the way over, he kept praising Nadine.
He had said, "Oh, you know me so well, Nad! I've been bored out of my mind in that hospital. Getting out and doing something like this makes me feel so much better! I'll have you know, hospitals are no good. I need you to keep me busy like this, Nad!"
When Brad reached out to help, Adam swatted his hand away. "Scram! I don't need your help!"
He'd seen exactly how incompetent Brad had been. He'd be lucky if he didn't get in the way. Adam was so angry that he wanted to send Brad back to the factory to be remade. Or better yet, let him start over.
Sean chimed in, "If Grandpa Adam were home, we could do this every day! That'd be awesome! Can we do this all the time, Grandpa Adam, Mommy?"
Even though the weather was cold, his smile was as bright as the sun. It made everyone feel warm inside.
Nadine chuckled and shook her head. "If you do this every day, you'll get sick of it in a week! It's fun to do it once in a while, but not all the time."
