Duty-bound to help those in need, Nadine quickly stepped in when she noticed that Brad's heart was acting up. As she held Brad, who once seemed so untouchable, now curled up in her arms like a helpless kitten, she couldn't help but think, "He's so much cuter like this."
She even noticed a tenderness in the man's gaze that she had never seen before. It was a look she knew was meant for Jean.
His eyes, as gentle as still water, held her gaze. "Please come back to me," he pleaded softly. His tone was so gentle, his gaze so full of affection that it was almost overwhelming. It made her heart miss a beat.
Everything she had once wished for was now just an arm's length away, easily attainable. Yet, she no longer wanted it. It was pointless and simply too late.
Besides, she knew all too well that Brad only ever showed this kind of tenderness when he was with Jean. The warmth he was showing her now was clearly not meant for her.
Once he seemed to be doing better, Nadine laid him onto Adam's lap and responded softly, "Brad, take a good look at me. I'm Nadine, the woman you despise the most—not Jean. Don't waste your sweet words on me. Save them for Jean." With that, she rose to her feet, not wanting to look at him anymore.
As soon as she stood up, her hand was seized by his cold fingers. He held her hand tightly and pleaded, "I know it's you, Nadine! I want you, not anyone else!"
