Because Brad had offered such a generous reward, Sean was especially eager to flatter Nadine. Only by keeping her here and making Brad happy could he get the toys he wanted so badly.
Although Nadine would buy him toys too, those expensive ones would be a burden for her. Sean didn't want Nadine to struggle because of him.
Since all it took to earn his favorite toys from Brad was keeping Nadine around for a while, why not do it? It was a win-win situation, after all. He loved the outcome—Nadine didn't have to work hard, and Brad willingly handed over gifts.
Hopping over to Nadine, Sean grabbed her hand and rubbed his face against the back of it. "Mommy, I haven't been home in so long. Can I stay a while before we leave? I still have a lot of toys I haven't cleaned up."
Faced with Sean's big and pleading eyes, Nadine found it hard to say no.
Even though she and Brad were divorced, Sean could still hang out with Brad if he wanted to. She knew just how much Sean liked Brad.
But Nadine didn't even know who Sean's biological father was. How could she force Brad to accept Sean as his son?
From her perspective, Brad's only fault was being somewhat distant from Sean. Other than that, nothing else was particularly wrong. It was only natural for Sean to like him since this was the case.
Truthfully, Nadine had never thought about searching for Sean's biological father. She didn't even want to know who he was. As long as Sean had her love, that was enough.
Six years ago, Nadine hadn't considered searching for the father of her child. And six years later, she still didn't want to.
Who knew what kind of person he might be? What if he turned out to be a scumbag or a convict?
In that case, it would be better if he didn't know about Sean's existence. This would spare Nadine from unnecessary trouble.
