Jean laid feebly on the hospital bed in Valor Military Medical Center, her eyes red and puffy. She had tried to take her own life by overdosing on sleeping pills but failed.

Lynn stood next to the hospital bed and softly urged, "Please stop crying, Ms. Sawyer. The doctor said it'll only make things worse for you."

Ever since Brad left in disappointment that day, Lynn had been filled with nothing but resentment toward Jean. How could someone as seemingly intelligent as Jean fail to pick up on her cues and manage to drive Brad away?

There was no telling when he'd show up again. Forget about Lynn wanting to see him—even Jean would find it nearly impossible to catch a glimpse of him now.

Even though she resented Jean, she couldn't let it show. After all, no one else would pay as much for a caregiver as Brad did, and she desperately needed that money. With it, her quality of life had vastly improved.

In the past, she could only afford skincare products that cost a few bucks. But ever since she started being Jean's caretaker, she rented a larger apartment with a balcony, flowers, and plenty of sunlight. She also started using high-end skincare brands.

These days, she didn't have to hesitate to buy serums that cost thousands of dollars. She no longer had to stare at the luxury serums for ages, too afraid to even ask for a sample.

With her increased income and the near-new clothes that Jean occasionally handed down to her, Lynn's style had improved significantly. She was no longer that meek girl she used to be and now carried herself with far more confidence. It had reached the point where people were stopping her on the street to ask for her contact information.

These were all things she'd never had the chance to experience before. Having tasted the sweetness of life, how could she ever go back to the bitter days of the past? Even though Jean was wallowing in self-pity and seemed utterly defeated, Lynn remained by her side, encouraging her.
