With the partition raised, the car's interior became divided into two distinct spaces.
Outside, the rain began to fall more heavily, with large droplets streaming down the windows, not unlike tears that Nadine had shed once upon a time.
As the raindrops trailed down the glass windows, the feeling of desolation inside only deepened. And with it, the stifling chill grew heavier, intensifying the already suffocating atmosphere.
During this time, Brad never loosened his grip on Nadine's wrist. He was terrified that the moment he let his guard down, Nadine would slip away.
Facing Brad's obscene words, Nadine had a cold face and looked outside the window silently.
Silence was the best tactic when dealing with Brad. At this time, she would only ignore him and not argue with him.
Once he found it pointless to bicker, he would let her go. Or perhaps, if she behaved well enough, he might even let his guard down. When the time came, she could escape.
As expected, Brad was upset when faced with Nadine's silence. He could ignore her but she absolutely could not do the same to him!
When they had first gotten married, Brad despised how Nadine won over Adam's favor so quickly and used it against him. Thus, Brad never offered her a kind smile. Most of the time, he ignored her, treating her as if she were invisible.
Now, the tables had turned. It was his turn to be the one overlooked by her, and the bitterness of it all stung deep.
It felt like he was trapped inside a transparent glass cage. What lay beyond the glass was visible to the eye, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't seem to break through.
That invisible barrier confined him, rendering him powerless and unable to act.
Seeing Nadine's persistent behavior, Brad finally sighed and said, "Nadine, let's make up. Everything that happened in the past was my fault. I wasn't a good husband and allowed you to suffer a lot of grievances. I'm truly sorry.
"I know you went through a lot of pain during our marriage. It's all my fault. I'm sorry, okay? I will be responsible for you from now on."
