Nadine had meant it when she said she wanted a divorce. After signing the divorce agreement, she moved out of Phoenix Villa to cut all ties with Brad. And she had been doing exactly that; she kept her distance, cut off all emotional ties, and stayed as far from Brad as she could.
However, everything changed when Brad was injured while saving her. Her heart felt tumultuous when she found out that the nerves in his hand were damaged beyond repair and he might become disabled. It felt as if an earthquake had unleashed a tsunami that could engulf her whole.
Had this happened before that day, she would have been able to brush the news of Brad's injury off without a second thought. But now, she found it impossible to ignore him, especially not when it was just the two of them alone in the hospital room.
Gazing at Brad's serene, handsome face, Nadine wrestled with her thoughts. In the end, she decided to stay and care for the man who had been injured because of her.
To be grateful was to repay kindness. She couldn't just accept Brad's favor without repaying it, nor could she bear to see him become disabled because of her. No matter what, as long as Brad was in the hospital, she would stay and take care of him.
Just a little while ago, when Evelyn had tried to pick a fight with her, Brad had stepped in to defuse the situation. While it might not mean much, it at least showed that he was on her side.
Once she had made up her mind, she didn't pull her hand away from Brad's grasp. Instead, she sat quietly beside his hospital bed, took out her phone, and started scrolling through the latest articles.
Brad slept soundly, without any dreams or jolting awake. Ever since Nadine moved out of Phoenix Villa, his sleep quality had taken a nosedive, and he often found it difficult to fall asleep. When he did manage to sleep, he'd wake up in the middle of the night and could never fall back to sleep.
