Evelyn glanced sideways at the bodyguards standing outside Brad's hospital room and nudged Jean's shoulder. "What are you on about? Anyway, thanks for taking care of Brad! It must've been tough on you. Come, let me take you out for coffee!"
Jean glanced at the Hamilton family's bodyguards and realized she had been too impulsive. Realizing she had made a mistake, she followed Evelyn to a nearby café without saying another word.
Evelyn looked around to ensure there were no cameras before pulling a small bottle from her bag and quickly slipping it into Jean's hand. Then, she acted as if nothing had happened and whispered, "It's potent—just three sprays will do. Don't use too much. This stuff is strong and could harm his heart. Brad won't be able to handle it."
Brad had a heart condition, and over the years, Nadine had been the one helping him manage it. If it weren't for her efforts, he likely wouldn't be doing so well now.
Fully aware of the serious side effects of the drug, Evelyn was concerned it could endanger Brad. "You must not give him too much, understand?" she reminded Jean.
Jean tightened her grip on the small bottle, akin to a drowning person clinging to their last lifeline. "Don't worry. I want him to live more than anyone else. I don't want to lose my husband before I even marry into the Hamilton family." Her eyes glimmered with hope as she held the small bottle.
Evelyn noticed how Jean had regained her liveliness and couldn't help but feel happy for her. "Keep him busy for now. I've dug up something on Nadine. She had a boyfriend; it was said that they were so in love that nothing but death could tear them apart."
David and his family had all been arrested. Jennifer and Samuel had committed less serious offenses, so they were only being temporarily detained, with no indication of how long they'd be held.
Jennifer didn't want to go to jail, so she'd been trying to get in touch with Jean, hoping she'd pull some strings to get her out. But against expectations, the person who came to see her was Evelyn.
Evelyn told Jennifer that she needed to offer something valuable if she wanted to be bailed out. If what she offered wasn't enough, Evelyn wouldn't lift a finger to help her.
