Meanwhile, across town at Phoenix Villa, Brad suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest and couldn't sit still. It felt as if someone was stabbing his heart with a knife. The pain made it impossible for him to focus on work anymore.
After the initial intense throbbing subsided, he slumped back into his chair, struggling for breath. He fumbled for the medication his doctor had prescribed, poured a few pills into his hand, and swallowed them dry.
It took almost 20 minutes for the throbbing pain to subside. However, all he could think about was Nadine—that stubborn, foolish woman. He couldn't help but wonder how she was doing.
To be honest, he didn't want to see Nadine. She claimed to love him, but she was just using him as a stand-in. As much as he liked her, the thought of being a stand-in made him feel sick. He wanted to teach her a lesson she wouldn't forget—one that would leave her bedridden. He wished someone would treat her as someone else's substitute, too.
Yet, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get her out of his mind. Hence, he battled with his mixed feelings throughout that week. He desperately wanted to see Nadine, yet he gritted his teeth and reminded himself that she only saw him as a stand-in. So, why bother? She'd never truly liked him. It was all just an act!
But the longer he went without seeing her, the more he missed her. He felt like a walking contradiction, oscillating between longing and resentment, unable to quiet his heart.
When the intense pain in his chest finally subsided, his throbbing head started to think straight. He remembered that Nadine had spent an entire day and night at the police station. Surely, she'd learned her lesson by now. So, he called Cameron. "How is she?"
As his ever-reliable assistant, Cameron's phone was always on standby. No matter the hour, he'd jump at a moment's notice, ready to handle whatever Brad demanded.
Cameron had already gone to bed at that hour, and when he answered the phone, his voice was thick with sleep and annoyance at being disturbed. "Who are you talking about?"
