Nadine had no idea her tormentors had already been dealt with. She was still trapped in a haze of fear, her hands flailing wildly as if she were attempting to drive away her terrifying enemies. Her throat was raw, and all she could do was scream like a madwoman.

Brad's heart ached for Nadine as he took in her condition. He rushed over and wrapped his arms tightly around her. Removing the towel from her mouth, he stared at her with bloodshot eyes. "How did you get yourself into this mess?"

Nadine was so deeply traumatized that she couldn't recognize him. Mistaking him for an enemy, she pounded her fists against his chest. "Go away! Don't touch me!"

Brad was caught off guard when she pushed him, causing him to stumble backward. Luckily, he was quick on his feet and managed to use his left hand to brace himself and avoid a complete fall.

Learning from his mistake, he took his time approaching Nadine, inching slowly and softly so as not to frighten her. "Nadine, it's me—Brad! I've chased the bad guys away!"

Had he known how merciless Lucas could be, he would never have left Nadine alone here. "Take a good look at me, Nadine! Who am I?"

Nadine slowly lifted her gaze. Her unfocused pupils gradually sharpened and started to shine. She could feel him getting closer to her, and the overwhelming urge to rush into his arms made her breath quicken. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears like a war drum stirring her courage.

At long last, she recognized the man before her. "Brad!" she cried out, her voice thick with pain and humiliation.
