Howard was completely powerless. He couldn’t move, speak, or close his eyes. His bloodshot eyes brimmed with tears and burned with desperate, hateful rage.
Sophia said mockingly, “Do you hate me? You should hate that deranged fan who threw acid on you–her name’s Ingrid, and she’s seventeen, still in high school. Oh well, she only did it because you instigated her, so you can’t really blame her, can you?”
Sophia sneered, “All you lost was your face, but she’s about to lose her entire future. Don’t you think that’s a bit too cruel?” As she spoke, her laughter grew wild and hysterical, until tears streamed down her face.
These were the exact words he once said to Sophia. Now she was giving them all back to him. Sophia said coldly, “How do you feel? Happy?”
Howard hated her, wishing he could tear her limb from limb and devour her flesh.
Sophia’s smile vanished, replaced by cold cruelty. She dug her fingers into Howard’s injured face and sneered, “How did things end up like this? When did it all start to go wrong?
“Oh, it all started when Yvette came back. I told you she was a jinx. As long as she’s around, the Chandler family will never prosper. None of you believed me, did you? Now you regret it. Some things are better believed than doubted.
“The kinder you are to her, the worse your luck turns. What a shame–last time she tumbled down the stairs and walked away without a scratch. If you’re looking for someone to blame, blame her. After all, she’s the real jinx here.”
Howard was in excruciating pain. It was a searing, burning agony so intense he wished for immediate death.
Sophia wasn’t done with him. With a look of disgust, she let go of him, deliberately went to wash her hands, then came back and played a video. The footage showed the deranged fan’s parents, accompanied by the media, making a scene at Chandler Group.
Sophia sneered, “Your scandal is still trending across all the major platforms, and Chandler Group is drowning in backlash. How long do you think Jonathan can hold out? A worthless piece of trash like you is meant to be discarded anyway.”
Sophia looked at him with feigned pity and said, “How pathetic. A useless loser like you can only slowly rot away in this hospital, just waiting to die.”
This was the fate Sophia had orchestrated for Howard–every bit of pain and torment she had endured, she would make sure the Chandlers suffered in
full.
Howard couldn’t speak. His whole body shook with fury, a guttural, beast–like growl tearing from his throat. He hated Sophia, Yvette, and Ingrid.
Sophia left the hospital room with a smile. Just then, Heather returned and anxiously asked, “How’s Howard?”
Sophia said to Heather, “I think he might have suicidal tendencies. You should have someone keep a close watch on him–just in case he tries anything drastic.”
Hearing this, Heather cried again. “Howard has always been so conscious about his appearance since childhood, and now…” she choked out, tears of distress rolling down her face.
Sophia gave her shoulder a cold, indifferent pat. “Don’t worry,” she said flatly. “With all the advances in modern medicine these days, they’ll figure something out. As long as he’s still breathing, there’s always hope.”
Heather suddenly pulled Sophia into a tight embrace, choking back tears. “Thank goodness you’re here. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Sophia stiffened, then abruptly shoved her away, her eyes turning icy cold. She sneered, “Yeah, lucky you.”
Speaking of which, Sophia suddenly asked, “Has Yvette been around these past few days?”
Heather sniffled but remained silent.

Chapter 114
Sophia scoffed, “After all Howard’s done for her, now when he needs her most, Yvette’s nowhere to be seen.”
Heather opened her mouth, wanting to defend Yvette, but the words caught in her throat.
Sophia continued, her tone laced with mockery, “Heather, do you have any idea what Yvette’s been up to lately?”
Heather had no idea.
Sophia said mockingly, “Kevin stabbed someone–he’s now in custody and will be sentenced. The Sampsons are bankrupt. Yvette gave the house Jonathan bought her to her adoptive mother, and even gave her some money. Looks like she’ll support her adoptive mother from now on.
“Look at her–already making sure her adoptive mom is set for life. Truly, Heather, your one and only perfect daughter. So kind and dutiful, isn’t she?”
Though what Sophia said was technically correct, Heather left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Sophia continued with a sneer, “Yvette’s using the Chandler family’s property to support her adoptive mother. Tell me, Heather, did she ever mention this to you?”
Heather didn’t say anything. Somehow, the words struck a nerve.
Sophia sneered, “Well, the Sampsons did raise her all those years, so of course she should support her adoptive mother now. But with all those debts they owe, someone as ‘kind–hearted‘ as her might just end up shouldering them.
“The bond of nurture outweighs the bond of birth. How loyal Yvette is.”
Heather’s expression darkened. She parted her lips but ultimately said nothing.
Sophia stepped into the elevator, hands in her pockets. After reaching the ground floor and strolling past the landscaped garden area, she spotted Jerome, his face twisted in anger as he argued with a middle–aged woman. It wasn’t eavesdropping–their voices carried, thick with fury.
“Just tell me, who the hell saved Maelis?”
“Jerome, don’t worry,” Tiana said urgently. “I’ve already taken care of everything. They won’t be able to find that person.”
Jerome sneered, “Don’t tell me you’ve had them killed.”
Tiana’s expression darkened. “Certainly not. I just had them sent away and gave them a small fortune. They won’t talk.”
Jerome let out a sinister chuckle, his face twisting with malice. He’sneered, “Don’t be naive. If the Snows are determined to find out, they will–it’s only a
matter of time.”
“So what? He took my money,” Tiana said dismissively. “If he dares to talk, I’ll make him regret it. That stupid girl Maelis has always been crazy about you, hasn’t she? Just go sweet–talk her and everything will be fine.”
Jerome was left speechless, his fists clenched tightly as his face twisted in fury. He had tried reaching out, but Maelis had already blocked him everywhere, cutting off all contact.
To make matters worse, the Snow family had been cutting ties with the Bennett family. They even threw a high–profile party, inviting their elite social circle. Frank openly declared to everyone that the event was to celebrate Maelis finally “waking up” from her hopeless infatuation.
