Chapter 124

Chapter 124

Jonathan thought to himself, Am I seeing things? He was glad he’d arrived early otherwise, he would’ve missed seeing Sophia chase down those things with the baton and make them beg for mercy.

Wilbur stared in shock, thinking, This lunatic is such a drama queen,

Even Luna couldn’t help but feel awkward about the whole situation.

Yet Sophia remained completely oblivious. After pretending to sob, she strutted up to Jonathan and grinned, So, how did I do? Pretty impressive, huh?! took care of everything for you.

Jonathan stared at the trashed cafe, then at Wilburhis onceneat suit was ruined beyond recognition, his face bruised and swollen, lip split and bleeding. Seriously? This is what you call taking care of things?he thought, utterly speechless.

Jonathan rubbed his temples, feeling like his life expectancy had just dropped by several years. Taking a deep breath, he glared at the four thugs and demanded, Who sent you?

The four thugs remained silent in unison.

Sophia rolled her eyes. Jonathan, they’re not going to talk if you ask like that. Let me handle this.” She stepped forward confidently, and the thug she’d been chasing instinctively recoiled several steps.

Sophia cut straight to the chase. No need to play dumb. I already know Heather sent you. After all, you’re on her payroll. Wouldn’t want to rat out your employer now, would you? I get it.

The four thugs exchanged awkward glances, at a complete loss for words.

All done,Sophia announced, turning to Jonathan with a smug grin.

Jonathan thought to himself, What the hell? That’s what you call an interrogation?

One of the thugs stammered, It wasn’t Heatherit was Hank.Hank was Heather’s older brother.

Sophia shrugged. All the same.

Jonathan’s face darkened as he pulled out his phone and called Hank.

Shortly after, one of the thugs received Hank’s call. With a quick gesture to his companions, they all slipped away from the café.

While they were talking, Luna helped Wilbur up and took him to the back to tend to his injuries. She then called the staff to clean up the café.

Sophia dragged over one of the few intact chairs and plopped down. Alright, Jonathan, what’s your move now?

Jonathan furrowed his brow, overwhelmed and drained by the chaos at work and at home. He let out a weary sigh. What should I do?

As soon as she was asked, Sophia perked up. First off, since you promised Heather, you’d better follow through. Otherwise, this kind of mess will just keep happening. Get your will sorted, and let whoever needs to leaveleave.

Sophia’s lips curled into a sly, unreadable smile. You’ve got to learn to make tradeoffs. If you’re not capable enough, you can’t have it all. Otherwise, you’ll end up with nothing. Know when to let go.”

Jonathan fell silent. It wasn’t that he couldn’t bear to lose Wilbur. Among all his children, Wilbur was by far the most capable. Even after years of grooming Sean, he still couldn’t quite measure up; compared to Wilbur, there was always that gap.

Jonathan’s expression turned grim at the shareholderswords. This is bullshit,he fumed inwardly. As the firstborn, the Chandler Group should be mine.

Yet the old man always dotes on Samuel. With him around, no one would ever notice me. While he stands in the spotlight, basking in applause and

flowers, I can only watch from the shadows

Resentment and fury seethed within Jonathan. Samuel had overshadowed him his entire life, and even years after his death, just hearing his name was enough to bring all those buried emotions raging back to the surface.

Jonathan closed his eyes, trying to steady his emotions. When he opened them again, he met Sophia’s detached yet allseeing gaze. His heart involuntarily skipped a beat.

Sophia blinked with a teasing smile. Why so nervous looking at me? Done something you shouldn’t have?

Jonathan inexplicably couldn’t quite meet her gaze, subtly averting his eyes and thinking he’d masked it perfectlyyet Sophia saw right through him.

I’ll consider what you’ve said,Jonathan replied evasively.

Consider?Sophia sneered, her eyes cold. Jonathan, do you really think you still have the luxury of time to think this over?

Jonathan was at a loss for words. He couldn’t confront Heather about this, but if he stayed silent, she would never back down. All he wanted was for Wilbur to stay. Now, he was truly caught between a rock and a hard place.

Jonathan muttered, Is there really no other way?

Yeah,Sophia said casually. Just let Wilbur leave Chandler Group and get your will sorted. That’s all.

Jonathan remained silent. He knew this was the only way out, but he stubbornly refused. He didn’t want to do either, not a single one of them.

Watching Jonathan’s indecisive display, Sophia couldn’t help but find it amusing.

Before long, Wilbur reappeared, his wounds bandaged and dressed in a fresh set of clothes.

Sophia let out a wolf whistle and teased, Well, Wilbur, that outfit fits you like a glove. Anyone would think Luna picked it out just for you.

Luna smiled faintly, poised and unruffled.

Wilbur’s ears flushed red with embarrassment. Cut it out,he blurted, clearly flustered.

Sophia snorted, not putting up with him. Turning to Luna with a mischievous grin, she said, Hey, got a boyfriend? If not, I can set you up. I know all kinds -domineering CEOs, lawyers, doctorsWhat’s your type?

Luna smiled politely without answering. Sorry about the mess. If you need to talk, the lounge in the back would work.

The lounge at the back was compact but spacious enough for three. Sophia, Jonathan, and Wilbur squeezed in, locked in an awkward standoff.

Sophia snapped impatiently, Jonathan, don’t you have anything better to do? Instead of wasting time here, go clean up Howard’s mess!

Jonathan shot her a glare.
