Chapter 146

Sophia curled her lips into a smirk. Propping her chin on one hand, she gazed at him with an amused expression. She said, So, Jonathan, your offer to drive me to school was just an excuse to ask me about this?

Jonathan’s expression turned awkward. Of course not,he denied unconvincingly.

Sophia snorted coldly. Keep denying it, Jonathan, she shot back.

Jonathan drove away from the Chandler residence, somewhat distracted.

Sophia frowned, her voice stern as she snapped, Jonathan, do you have a death wish? Keep your damn eyes on the road!

Jonathan choked up, opening and closing his mouth several times.

Sophia scowled in annoyance. She said, I’ve already told you, if you want to know, go ask Heather. Why are you bugging me? Who on earth is Mireille, and why are you and Heather so obsessed with her?

Jonathan dropped the subject and kept his eyes on the road.

Sophia’s phone buzzed with new messages.

Maelis said: [Sophia, how could you just leave? Didn’t we agree I’d take you to school?]

Dorian asked: [Sophia, are you at school yet? Can I come find you?]

Sophia frowned, her fingers hovering over the screen, about to turn him down when Dorian’s second message popped up.

Dorian said: [I’ve never been to a university campus before, no idea what it’s like. Can I come check it out?]

Sophia deleted her rejection and replied briefly: [Whatever.] When she was just about to put her phone away, another message from Maelis popped up.

Maelis said: [Don’t even think about ditching me. I’m coming to Jelasburg University to find you right now.]

Sophia thought, I was planning to keep a low profile at school, but with these two showing up together, how the hell am I supposed to stay unnoticed?

Jonathan glanced at Sophia through the rearview mirror and asked, Who just messaged you?

Sophia snapped, Keep your damn eyes on the road, Jonathan. Mind your own business.

Jonathan took a deep breath and said sternly, I’m still your father.

Sophia sneered, Father? As if you deserve that title.

Jonathan gritted his teeth, muttering, Ungrateful brat.

Back at the house, after Sophia and Jonathan had left, Heather set down her fork and said coldly to the maid, Clear the table.

The maid hesitated before speaking cautiously, Mrs. Chandler, Ms. Yvette Chandler hasn’t come down yet.

Heather was taken aback.

Just then, Yvette walked over and looked at the cleared tableware. Did I come down too late?she asked hesitantly.

The maid kept her head bowed in silence,

Heather was in no mood. She said curtly, Just eat. Then, hurry to school.

Yvette walked over and cooed, Mom, will you come with me to school?

Heather refused curtly, I’m exhausted. Just go by yourself.

Yvette felt Heather had suddenly grown distant. She pleaded, Mom, will you come with me? Please?

Heather, already in a foul mood, snapped impatiently, You’re in college now, not kindergarten. What kind of student still needs their mother to hold their hand?

Yvette stared at Heather in disbelief, her eyes welling up with tears of grievance. Mom,she whimpered.

Heather was fed up. Enough. Eat and stop wasting time, she snapped. With that, she went upstairs.

A sudden sense of confusion flickered across Yvette’s face. Something occurred to her, and she turned to the maid. Where’s Sophia?she asked

The maid replied, Ms. Sophia Chandler has finished breakfast and gone to school for registration.”

Yvette asked with an edge, Did she go alone?

The maid replied respectfully, Mr. Chandler drove her there.

Yvette clenched her fork until her knuckles turned white, her face contorted with rage as jealousy burned within her. She thought, Why? I’m supposed to be the female lead. How dare Sophia steal what rightfully belongs to me?

The more Yvette thought about it, the more wronged she felt. Swallowing her bitterness, she called Zachary, only to be met with endless ringing.

Still unwilling to give up, Yvette called the hospital. Zachary’s assistant answered. Is Dr. Dawson available?she asked anxiously.

The assistant replied, Dr. Dawson has been temporarily suspended.

Yvette’s eyes widened in shock. She said, How can this be? Dr. Dawson, he

The assistant interrupted her, If you need Dr. Dawson, try his cell. Or go to Dawson residence. With that, the line went dead.

Yvette stared at her phone, her stunned expression frozen in place. For a long moment, she couldn’t process it. She thought, Suspended? How could this happen? This wasn’t how things were supposed to be.

Zachary is destined to become the country’s most renowned psychiatrist, with universities scrambling to book him for lectures. He should have been showered with flowers and applause, not suspended by the hospital like this.

It must be Sophia, of course it’s her. Everything changed because of her. I won’t let her get away with this. She’s just a supporting acter. Does she think she can steal my spotlight just because she’s regained her memories?

I’ll make sure Sophia knows it is impossible. Even without Zachary, I’ve got other options. Just wait!

Sophia sneezed and then rubbed her nose.

They arrived at Jelasburg University earlier than expected. Jonathan found a parking spot, and just as Sophia was about to get out, he said, Wait a

minute.

Sophia raised an eyebrow. Jonathan averted his gaze and said gravely, Mireille was your mother’s cousin. She lost both parents as a child and was raised by the Darcy family. She grew up with your mother. They were closer than sisters.
