Reborn to Burn Them All novel Chapter 148

Chapter 148

Startled, Vivienne snapped, What are you staring at? Keep looking at me like that and I’llBefore she could finish, one of her maids, Nova, covered her mouth.

Seeing this, Maelis and the senior girl were at a loss for words.

Sophia scoffed lightly. She shifted her gaze to the girl beside Maelis, Nadia, who kept her head down behind blackframed glasses. Though Sophia had never planned to live on campus, she now found herself a bit intrigued by the idea.

Sophia, don’t tell me you didn’t hear me calling you. I know you did. That’s why you ran off so fast,Maelis pouted, putting on her best spoiledprincess act, clearly wanting to be coaxed.

Sophia removed her mask, revealing her delicate features. She glanced up and said coolly, Of course I heard you. That’s exactly why I ran.She thought, No way was t going to stick around and become a spectacle.

Maelis paused briefly. But true to her carefree nature, she quickly shrugged it off. Noticing Sophia didn’t have any bags, she asked, Where’s your stuff?

Sophia responded unfazed, I’ll go back and get it later.

Maelis gave a casual Fine.

Vivienne’s maids started cleaning the dorm, top to bottom, leaving no corner untouched.

After seeing Sophia to the dorm, the senior girl exchanged contact info with Sophia before taking her leave.

Vivienne shoved Nova’s hand away, her voice shrill and petulant as she snapped, What’s your problem? Why won’t you let me talk?

Nova gave her a measured look and replied, Ms. Monroe, I trust you haven’t forgotten your grandmother’s instructions?

Vivienne felt utterly stifled. Truth be told, she was somewhat intimidated by Nova. After all, Nova was sent by her grandmother. And that only made Vivienne even angrier.

Nova pulled three exquisitely wrapped gifts from her handbag, handing one to each roommate with a smile. She said, Our lady has been rather spoiled at home. We hope you’ll be understanding.

The first roommate, Diana, had unevenly chopped short hair, a small, skinny frame, and weathered skin that suggested malnutrition. Her clothes were old and washedout, and her shoes, soles badly scuffed and coming unglued, looked barely wearable.

Diana sat quietly in the corner. When Vivienne swept in with her maids and designer luggage, Diana’s eyes locked onto Vivienne with an almost unsettling intensity, as if she’d never seen anything like it before.

When Nova offered the gift, Diana, though slightly reserved, was the first to accept it eagerly. Her eyes lit up as she introduced herself warmly, Thank you for the gift. I’m Diana. If you ever need anything, just let me know. Don’t be shy.

Nova nodded curtly, her manner cold and distant. But when her gaze landed on Sophia, her face immediately brightened with an ingratiating smile.

Nova said, Sophia, our lady, Vivienne Monroe, comes from Sarelfield. She’s truly fortunate to be sharing a dorm with you, the top STEM scorer. We hope you can take care of her in the future. As she spoke/she presented a gift.

Without even glancing over, Sophia gave a cryptic smile and said, If she’s so spoiled at home, then just keep her locked up there. Once she’s out, no one’s going to put up with her. Life will teach her a lesson.

Nova froze, completely unprepared for Sophia’s blunt response.

Maelis burst out laughing. She chimed in, Exactly! Why should everyone put up with her? What, does she think the whole world is her mom and dad or something?

Nova’s face darkened instantly, her polite facade slipping.

Vivienne, never one for patience, had all Nova’s warnings fly right out of her head. She strutted over with all the haughty arrogance of a spoiled heiress.

She sneered, Sophia, I know exactly who you are. So what if you’re the top STEM scorer? You’re just the unwanted daughter of the Chandler family in Jelasburg. The Chandlers mean nothing to me, let alone you, their unwanted daughter.

This time, Nova didn’t stop Vivienne. She seemed almost encouraging.

Sophia remained utterly unfazed, her lips curling into a mocking smile. She said, The Monroe family from Sarelfield is equally insignificant in my eyes. And you, their socalled most favored granddaughter, aren’t even fit to be mentioned in the same breath as me.

Vivienne glared at Sophia, eyes blazing with fury.

Sophia continued, Just listen to your grandmother, keep your head down, and play your part in this arranged marriage. What right do you have to act all high and mighty when you can’t even choose your own spouse?

Not just Vivienne, but all four of her maids froze in shock. Nova, in particular, frowned and gave Sophia a thoughtful, almost calculating look, as if she were reassessing the situation.

Vivienne’s face flushed crimson with rage, her eyes blazing murderously. She spat through gritted teeth, Sophia, you’ve crossed me. Just wait, I’ll make your life hell from now on.

Sophia fixed her with a knifeedged smirk. She said, Bring it on.

That look from Sophia unsettled Vivienne a bit. But her spoiledheiress pride flared up. She thought, She’s just the Chandler family’s unwanted daughter. What right does she have to compare with me?

Realizing that Sophia and Vivienne were locking horns, Nadia adjusted her glasses with a quiet sigh, feeling troubled. It was only movein day, yet she

could already foresee the stormy days ahead.

Maelis, ever the gossip lover, instantly caught the scent of drama. She said, Sophia, I knew sticking with you would guarantee some fresh gossip.

Sophia found Maelis’s expression was just like Dorian’s when it came to gossip. Thinking of Dorian, Sophia suddenly realized she might have forgotten

something.

Just then, a fluffy head peeked through the dorm doorway. Dorian’s sparkling eyes fixed on Sophia as he grinned, revealing both dimples and little fangs, the picture of innocence. Sophia,he chirped.

Maelis flashed a smug grin. She said, Too late for the show, Dorian.

Dorian shook his head and replied, I heard it all. The Monroe family from Sarelfield? Evander mentioned them before.

Maelis pursed her lips, visibly annoyed.
