As soon as Yvette looked up, she met Sophia’s gaze. Seeing that Sophia seemed to want to punch her, Yvette shrank back in fear, her face turning pale “Sophia, I just thought that madam and her grandson were so pitiful.

“I wanted to help them in any way I could. If you don’t think it’s a good idea, then I won’t go.”

Sophia glared at her. “Do whatever you want. It’s none of my business,” she snapped.

Yvette’s face was filled with grievance.

After Sophia sat down next to Yvette, Yvette shivered and didn’t dare to speak.

“Sophia, have some of this,” Heather interjected, trying to ease the tension. She couldn’t stand to see Yvette being wronged, but didn’t dare to confront Sophia directly, so she tried to divert Sophia’s attention.

Sophia pushed a plate of ravioli in front of herself. Yvette glanced up.

“What’s wrong?” Sophia grabbed another plate of baguette and placed it in front of Yvette. “Enjoy it.”

Yvette looked at Sophia with grievance as she took a bite of the hard baguett

as if she had been humiliated.

Sophia rolled her eyes. She didn’t care whether they ate or not. She needed to be full. The atmosphere was awkward and heavy.

Heather tried to lighten the mood. “Yvette, aren’t you going out? Finish eating and go ahead.”

Yvette looked at Heather gratefully, put down the unfinished baguette, and started to get up. Sophia sighed dramatically, “With such a big thing happening in the family, does no one care?”

Yvette stiffened, and she didn’t dare to move.

Heather, thinking she knew what Sophia was referring to, said, “It’s about Howard, right? He came back last night and is resting in his room.”

Sophia looked at Yvette with a half–smile. “Yvette, you’re so fond of feeling sorry for others. Why don’t you show some concern for Howard?”

Yvette opened her mouth to explain. She did care about Howard, but with his career crashing and scandals all over the internet, she felt powerless.

“Yvette, are you really that kind–hearted, or are you just pretending?” Sophia propped her chin on one hand and looked at Yvette with an ambiguous smile.

Yvette felt a chill run down her spine. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. That lady and her grandson are really pitiful, and I want to help them as much as I can. That’s all.”

Sophia spoke with contempt. “The Sampson family is also pitiful. Your adoptive father is even in jail, and I haven’t seen you actively care about him. Howard is your own brother. His career is completely collapsing.

“No one knows how much in breach–of–contract fees he’ll have to pay. He might never be able to make it in the entertainment industry again. Aren’t you concerned or heartbroken for him?”

Sophia suddenly slammed the table and accused Yvette with righteous indignation. “Instead, you go and care about complete strangers. Do you des the kindness Howard has shown you? Aren’t you afraid of hurting his feelings?”

Faced with Sophia’s accusation, Yvette was about to retort when she noticed Howard, sitting in a wheelchair on the second floor, quietly watching them.

“Howard?” Yvette called out instinctively.

“Howard, you’re awake. Are you hungry? Wait a moment.” Heather quickly put down her plate and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for Howard.

Yvette seemed to realize something. She looked at Sophia with resentment. “You did this on purpose.

Sophia raised her eyebrows and smiled. “Yes, so what are you going to do about it? Am ! wrong?”

Wette’s eyes turned red with anger as she looked at Howard on the second floor. “Howard, I didn’t mean to not care about you, I just-

Sophia deliberately interrupted Yvette. “You just think that since he’s your brother, he won’t mind, no matter how you treat him, You tare more about what other people think of you. In the end, you’re just selfish. Yvette, you are ungrateful.”

“Sophia, shut up,” Yvette couldn’t help but snap. “Stop sowing discord here,”

Sophia didn’t argue with Yvette. “The truth is always hard to hear. Time reveals character. Anyone sharp will eventually see what kind of person you are after spending enough time together.”

Yvette was furious and retorted at Sophia. “What I’m like is none of your business.”

Sophia slammed the plate down. “None of my business? Of course. You must be dreaming. I was just thinking about what Mrs. Sampson said. Whenever you’re involved, there’s no peace.” Yvette burst into tears.

Sophia, however, continued to interrogate her with a sense of righteous indignation. “Look at how long you’ve been back, and you’ve already turned this

house into a mess.

“The Sampson family went bankrupt, your adoptive father is in jail, and now Howard is embroiled in so many scandals–all because of you.

“Nothing bad happened until you showed up. You always say you want to leave, but I never see you packing. Are you determined to bring the Chandler family down just like the Sampson family?”

Yvette cried and shook her head helplessly. “No, I really didn’t mean to. None of this is my fault.”

“Time will tell everything. If the Chandler family goes bankrupt, it’ll be your doing,” Sophia snorted coldly, not bothering to care about Yvette anymore. She gave her a look of disgust.

“Disgusting,” Sophia said as she took the plate of ravioli and left. Yvette lay there, sobbing miserably.

After being berated by Sophia, Yvette had no mood to think about the poor old madam anymore. Sophia hummed and went upstairs.

Once in her room, she called the hospital. Mira answered. As her savior, Sophia was someone Mira was extremely grateful to and would listen to anything she said.

“Mira, did you meet a woman who seemed very kind last night?” Sophia asked.
