Chapter 73
“So this is where you two have been hiding. Did you think you could escape us? We will wreck this place.” With Mike in jail and his family drowning in debt, their creditors finally tracked them down.
“Please, don’t break anything. I’ll pay. Just stop,” Monica pleaded. But one man shoved her aside, and she fell, hitting her head on the table. Blood dripped down her forehead.
“Trying to fake an injury to avoid paying, huh? We will destroy everything here.”
The house was a disaster, with shattered glass and broken furniture everywhere.
Monica fell to the floor, surrounded by the mess. Blood dripped from her forehead as she sat there, staring blankly. Tears ran down her face, and a bitter laugh escaped her lips.

That laugh was haunting, filled with sorrow and anger, yet showed a stubborn refusal to give in.
She thought, ‘Yvette ruined everything. She cast a spell on my son, and even falling down the stairs didn’t kill her. She should’ve died. Why won’t she just die already?‘
Without Heather and Yvette, the Chandler residence was too quiet for Sophia. Heather, who had more serious injuries, was already awake. Yvette, with only minor injuries, was still unconscious.
Sophia felt disappointed; not one of them had died. Feeling bored, she stepped out of her room and spotted Howard at the end of the hall. He sat in his wheelchair, staring blankly out the window.
“Well, well, the great Howard Chandler finally crawled out of his hole,” Sophia sneered. Seeing him like this gave her a twisted sense of pleasure. “Do you even remember what you did? Or should I remind you?”
Howard remained silent. His cold stare met hers. Sophia walked over, leaning against the wall beside him. With her arms crossed, she looked down at him like he was nothing more than a bug.
“You loved Yvette so much, so why did you suddenly push her down the stairs? Don’t tell me you’ve gone crazy,” she said, her tone pretending to show
concern.
She added, “Yvette really lives up to her reputation as a curse. After she returned to the Chandler residence, two people went mad. I’m curious–did you really see a ghost? What did it look like?
“Was it like a horror movie? A woman in white with long, tangled hair crawling out of the TV? Did she smile at you, her face all mangled and falling apart?”
Before she could finish, Howard let out a horrifying scream that echoed down the hall. “Shut up!” he shouted.
In a sudden fit of rage, Howard lunged at her, reaching for her throat. But Sophia was quicker. With one swift kick, she sent him tumbling from his wheelchair, crashing into the corner of the hallway.
Sophia crouched beside him, gripping the back of his neck and pressing his face to the floor. Her smile was bright, but the hate in her eyes made her look evil.
“Trying to strangle me? Soon, you’ll be discarded,” she said, her voice icy.
“Honestly, you’ve never been worth my time,” she added, disdain dripping from her words. Then, as if he disgusted her, she let go of him.
Howard lay on the floor, writhing in pain. He curled up, holding his ears, mumbling about the ghost.
Sophia grabbed his shirt, pulling him up slightly. Her smile turned venomous as she leaned close, whispering in his ear. “You’ve always been useless. But

since Yvette returned, you’ve become even more pathetic.”
She added, “Why just push her down the stairs? If you want peace,)
just kill her. Then, you won’t see any ghosts, and they won’t haunt you anymore.
“Kill her,” Howard mumbled, his mind unraveling.
Sophia’s lips curled into a pleased smirk. “Exactly. She’s not your sister. She’s a curse. Killing her means ending the curse. If she doesn’t die, you’ll never be free of her haunting.”
“Kill her,” Howard repeated, his desperation growing.
Sophia released him, standing up with a cheerful hum. She walked downstairs, her mood bright as if she hadn’t just caused chaos.
Sophia stepped out of her house two days later, wearing a white T–shirt with a QR code, sweatpants, a sun hat, and sunglasses. She carried a bag over her shoulder and casually held a baseball bat.
Even though she had received the compensation money, buying a new car wasn’t her priority. As she left the house, she noticed someone lurking suspiciously around. She smirked slightly and ignored them.
She took a ride to the auction venue, filled with valuable items and attended by many elite figures.
Sophia thought her casual outfit would help her avoid attention, but as soon as she entered, the crowd, who had been talking among themselves, turned
to stare at her all at once.
“That’s Sophia Chandler, the troublesome heiress of the Chandler family.”
“I heard she was the top scorer among STEM students with a score of 1,574. I even considered asking her to tutor my kid.”
“Forget it. She’s not just troublesome–she’s vindictive. Think about what happened to the Lynn family, the Foley family, and the Sampson family–they
all went bust.”
The crowd whispered. Even if Sophia couldn’t hear their words, their looks told the story.
Sophia wondered if she was really that well–known. She took off her sunglasses and scanned the room, causing everyone to quickly look away, pretending they hadn’t been watching.
Sophia thought, ‘Seriously? Do I look that scary to them?‘
“Ms. Chandler,” a voice suddenly called out to her.
Sophia turned to see Liam’s daughter, Lucinda Finch.
“Hello, Mrs. Finch,” Sophia greeted with a polite smile, recalling the gift Liam had sent her.
Lucinda smiled warmly. “Come sit over here.”
“Thank you,” Sophia replied, taking a seat beside her.
Lucinda, like her father, appreciated intellectuals and married into a scholarly family.
Her daughter, Odette, was about Sophia’s age. Odette wore black glasses, had delicate features and smooth skin, and was somewhat shy. But her eyes sparkled the moment she saw Sophia.
“This is my daughter, Odette. She’s about to start her third year in college,” Lucinda introduced her daughter while chatting.
Odette blushed when Sophia looked her way. “Hello,” she said timidly.
