The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 164

Jared paled instantly while Yvonne froze. As he tried to stay calm, he walked over to the women and patted their heads lightly. "You two may leave. I'll handle this."

"But…"

"Just go."

After sending the two away, Jared turned to me while I held Lorraine's hand and intended to lead her out.

"Cole, let's talk," Jared suggested.

Lorraine and I exchanged a glance. I patted her head reassuringly and signaled for her to leave first.

With a frown on her face, she seemed visibly worried. "I'll stay with you."

"Wait in the car," I said. Yvonne and Jared came for me, and I wouldn't let Lorraine endure their nonsense.

"What do you want to say?" I asked as I kept a distance from them and didn't bother to look at them directly.

Yvonne cleared her throat and stepped in front of Jared. What a lovely couple.

She began, "I know you hate me, Cole. I just hope you can calm down and think about Jonas."

"What's there to think about?" Watching Yvonne play her little act in front of me felt ridiculous, and I snapped, "Now that I'm getting married, you suddenly have something to say?"

I knew her motives better than anyone else.

Yvonne knew that there was no point in saying anything and stopped insisting. Before she left, she dropped one last remark, "Regardless, I'll make sure Jonas doesn't take her as his mom."

She was the only mother to her children.

As they left the bar, Jared stuck close to Yvonne, who got into the passenger seat in silence.

"Are you regretting it?" Jared asked.

Rubbing her temples, Yvonne turned around with a startled expression, only to hear Jared continue, "Regretting ever getting married? Or regretting giving Jonas to Cole?"

She frowned and shot him a reproachful look. "Don't you trust me?"

She took out their marriage certificate and said, "I lied to Cole for you. Do you even realize that if he finds out, he'll take Xavier from me? How dare you not believe me?"
