It took a lot of effort to put Jonas to sleep. Lorraine rubbed her temples, her face displaying her exhaustion.
"I didn't expect Jonas to be so emotional," she said.
Because of what happened with Sam, Lorraine and I hadn't spoken to each other much all day. Now, when I looked at her, I suddenly felt slightly weary as well.
I might have been a bit too impulsive, after all.
Being with Lorraine was proving to be much more troublesome than I had imagined.
"You should rest earlier too. There's still work to be done in the studio tomorrow," I said.
I noticed the look of desire in Lorraine's eyes—she must have come around to a decision.
But I really wasn't in that kind of mood these past few days. I still needed to investigate her background and figure out who had been brainwashing Jonas. I was extremely exhausted from this.
After parting from Lorraine, I took a cold shower. I waited for the heat in my body to subside before falling into a deep sleep.
I felt like my exhaustion had just begun to dissipate when I was jolted awake by the rapid ringing of a ringtone.
"Who…" I muttered groggily as I heard the ringtone coming from the neighboring room.
The phone rang three times before it was answered. It also left me feeling wide awake.
I threw on some clothes and went to knock on the room door. Lorraine was already dressed and ready to head out.
"Where are you going?" I asked. It wasn't even 7:00 am yet.
"My dad called me. He said he wants to discuss Sam's matters."
Lorraine's expression looked grave, likely because Sam hadn't been found yet.
"I'll go with you."
"No need. You get some good rest." Lorraine held my hand to stop me before turning to leave.
…
Lorraine stood by the door of the Sommerton residence, waiting for someone to open it.
